Somebody had listed \'\'Returns\'\' in the Troper Tales of Fanon Discontinuity, and I am one of those fans as well

Added DiffLines:

** The Tiki-Tak Tribe from ''Returns'', who replaced the iconic Kremlings as the villains. Their goofy, unimposing appearance didn't help(Sure the Kremlings were a bit goofy at times as well, but they were still brutish, bipedal crocodiles). They have become so hated that certain parts of the fandom [[FanonDiscontinuity refuse to acknowledge the existence]] of ''Returns''.

* EvenBetterSequel: [=DKC1=] did things with gameplay and graphics that no one had seen before, but [=DKC2=] streamlined that gameplay ([[ThatOneLevel for the most part]]), fixed what minor problems there were, got much more creative and fair with the bonus stage locations, included about a half dozen PlatformHell levels and a BonusBoss for players dedicated enough to go for HundredPercentCompletion, and in general made it seem less of a ''SuperMarioWorld'' clone and more of its own game.
* FollowTheLeader: It was obviously based on ''SuperMarioWorld'', but it does have its own original elements, like a frontal rolling attack, minecart rides, and secrets hidden in the walls. Though some still slam it for being a ''Mario'' clone.

* ValuesDissonance: Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong destroy the Kremling Lost World, the life force of the Kremlings. In turn, this sinks Crocodile Isle to the bottom of the ocean, killing, presumably, everyone who lived there. Some, likely Klubba, may have escaped.

And a list of Tropes from the Cartoon:

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Pretty much any time they [[ThatRemindsMeOfASong burst into song]].
** This troper's seen like one episode, ever, and it just so happens to have been the one time the song is actually relevant to the plot (Donkey Kong put a recording of the song into a time capsule, so bursting into song actually kind of makes sense, because no one else has actually heard the song he put in the capsule).
** Most songs are more or less connected to the plot. The only song to really count as a BLAM is in Bug A Boogie, when after Cranky laughs about the SnipeHunt he sent Donkey and Diddy Kong on, we cut to Scurvy's ship, where a song and dance routine is taking place.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: Most scenes with Cranky. And the montage of Diddy and Cranky kicking Klump and Krusha out of the treehouse.
** Or how about the aforementioned BigNo?
** The "cronies" conversation.
** "Bug A Boogie" was a Crowning Episode of Funny.
* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming I dare you to watch the "Festival of Lights" episode and not go all gooey.
* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: The games' tendency to have [[CrowningMusic/DonkeyKongCountry awesome music]] somehow made its way into the show.
** Skurvy's theme was especially catchy.
** One episode had what was essentially a rap duel between K. Rool and Donkey Kong. It was CrazyAwesome.
*** And [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLQWrNAZ4xY here]] it is, I do believe.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1FBAdHt2lM To know everything, you must give up everything]].
* EarWorm: Several (if not all) of the songs featured in the show.
* EvilIsCool: Ask any fan of the show about Kaptain Skurvy. Go ahead, ask. Or better yet, just listen: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LAkn0ORDxUc&feature=related Pirate's Scorn]] and [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV5NerQIRk4&feature=related Booty Booty]].
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The show was so popular in Japan that it spawned its own unique merchandise line over there, including a collectible card game.
* MemeticMutation: K. Rool screaming "'''WHYYYYY NOOOOTTTT!!!???'''" from "Bug a Boogie"
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S86XCXalbSE WEEEELLLLLL LISTEN HERE WHILE I MAKE IT CLEAR]]
** Recently, a video called [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ed3PbeJtwbg "OH MY GOD WATCH OUT DK"]] features a snippet from "Kong for a Day" with DK singing "I don't know what's happening to me" edited to look like a plane crashes into DK. There are variations that either have a character dubbed with DK's voice suffering similar disasters or people's reactions to the original video.
* {{Mondegreen}}: In "Booty and the Beast," the first line of Junior the Giant Klaptrap's song is "''I like the taste of a pirate '''ship'''''"--the last word is easily misheard. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO3L_4g83rw#t=48s (Listen for yourself!)]]
* NightmareFuel: DK's description of the bog monster.
* SpecialEffectsFailure: Oftentimes, a character's mesh will end up clipping with itself (Especially noticeable with Captain Scurvy).
* TearJerker: Donkey Kong's song in 'Kong For A Day', where K.Rool's machinations gets him alienated from his friends.
--> ''I don't know what's happening to me''
--> ''I'm getting all the blame for things I didn't do''
--> ''Can anybody tell me just what I did wrong?''
--> ''I'm all alone and all so confused''
--> ''I don't know what everyone wants me to be''
--> ''I only know how to be me''
--> ''Once I was the ape of the hour''
--> ''They think I'm a coward''
--> ''An absolute zero''
--> ''I'm nobody's hero''

* NeverLiveItDown: ShigeruMiyamoto will never live down saying "Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre gameplay as long as the art is good." He said this because he was working on ''[=~Yoshi's Island~=]'' at the time, and there was a lot of pressure for him to make it look like [=DKC=] (the game still turned out awesome-looking though). He stated in a [[http://wii.ign.com/articles/110/1100039p3.html recent interview]] that he does like [=DKC=], saying that he worked closely with {{Rare}} on the project.

Added DiffLines:

* ReplacementScrappy: Tiny Kong and Chunky Kong from DK64, who are pretty much {{Expies}} of Dixie and Kiddy Kong.
** Ellie the Elephant from [=DKC3=], who replaced the series' most iconic animal buddy, Rambi the Rhino. Doubles as TheWesley; note that she appears far more often than the other animal buddies ''and'' has a much larger skill set.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Squawks went from being pretty much useless in [=DKC1=] to fulfilling a vital role in [=DKC2=].
** It must run in the family because Squawks' purple PaletteSwap (named Quawks, according to ''Donkey Kong Barrel Blast'') goes from being basically a prop in [=DKC2=] (and blue) to a playable character with a separate, equally useful moveset in [=DKC3=], able to grab barrels and use them instead of shooting eggy-nut dealies.
* ScrappyMechanic: Happens in all games except DonkeyKong64 (more commonly occurring in the Donkey Kong Land trilogy due to hardware limitations), when any of the character(s) fall down from a great height faster than the game can keep up with them. The game mistakenly thinks you fell down a bottomless pit, resulting in you losing a life. [[SarcasmMode Have fun repeating part of the level again due to]] FakeDifficulty!
** This was fixed in the GBA ports, since the GBA has a more powerful processor than the SNES.

Added DiffLines:

* ThatOneBoss: A handful of them may qualify. A notable example is [[spoiler: Krow's Ghost]] in [=DKC2=], as half of the fight consists of climbing across ropes to chase after him, all the while having eggs shoot at you from multiple directions. If you're Diddy, you can speed past the ropes with some skill. If you're stuck with the slower Dixie, you're pretty much screwed.
* ThatOneLevel: "The Squawks part of Animal Antics" could easily be the laconic entry for the article.
** What makes that part worse is that it's somewhat easy to screw up a jump over a spike pit in the ensuing Rattly area. If you have only one hit left after Squawks' area (and you likely do) and screw up, you have to start the Squawks area all over again.
** Web Woods from the second game also qualifies for this in spades.
** Toxic Tower in 2 and Lightning Lookout in 3 are also potential examples.
*** In Donkey Kong ''[[GameBoy Land]]'' 2, Toxic Tower isn't particularly hard...but the earlier, similar level, Slime Climb, is almost impossible.
** Bramble. Fucking. Scramble.
*** Compounded with a DK coin hidden in a place you could never look.
**** Most people can find the exit to this place pretty easy, but the entrance is hidden so well that some players would end up squeezing between the barrel and bramble that comprise the exit.
**** Really, the Bramble levels in general are the most difficult in the game. At least they have the most [[CrowningMusic/DonkeyKongCountry well-known song]] in the game, Stickerbrush Symphony.
** In the third game, there's Poisonous Pipeline which ''reverses'' your control of the characters making an already difficult level even ''more'' difficult. Oh yes, and every one of the Lost World levels also count, especially the last one.

* MorePopularSpinoff: More people seem to be familiar with this series than the original ''DonkeyKong''.
* MostWonderfulSound: The "AAWNK" noise that some enemies make when being defeated is always good for a laugh. Especially when it echoes.
** Also, when you have one Kong, and you are traversing a tough level, the sound of a Kong in a DK barrel makes a great HopeSpot.
* MST3KMantra: It's probably best not to ask how a parrot can fly around while holding two apes in his claws.
** From Brian Sulpher's YouTube talkthrough of [=DKC2=]: "If you step on (Clapper), he will cool down the water for you. Not sure how that works, but then again, these are monkeys who wear clothing who ride animals and bust through walls and collect coins and battle reptiles who think they're pirates. So again, we should not apply too much logic to this."
* NightmareFuel: The series has so much of it, it has [[{{NightmareFuel/DonkeyKongCountry}} its own page now]].
* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: While generally well-received, the original game suffered this in some circles.
** Perhaps the biggest oddity about it is that reviewers who used to praise it now criticize it. ''Electronic Gaming Monthly'', for example, made the game its 1994 game of the year, but years later put it on their list of most overrated games.
*** To be fair to EGM, 1994 also saw the release of ''SuperMetroid'', ''FinalFantasyVI'' and ''MegaManX''. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone saying DKC was a better game than all of those nowadays.
*** A lot of this comes from two sources: An overworked ShigeruMiyamoto verbally trashing the game during a press conference after being pressured by higher-ups into making a game similar to it (which led to the creation of ''[=~Yoshi's Island~=]''), and people parroting his opinion afterwards (he later recanted these statements,) and Rare being sold to Microsoft, which led to various [[FanDumb Nintenfriends]] utilizing historical revisionism to soften the blow of their patron company losing one of its bigger second parties.
*** Even before the Rare split, after the initial wow factor from the visuals wore off, many fans concluded that the game wasn't really any better, let alone earth-shattering, than other games of its ilk or era. On EGM's 100 Greatest Video Games features in its 100th and 150th issues, only one game featuring Donkey Kong in its title made the list: [[VideoGameRemake the 1994 Game Boy puzzle platform update of the original]].
