* LesYay: A fair amount of this between Rose and Sarah Jane, once they iron out their differences. Particuarly in the final scene, where they give each other a decidedly heartfelt embrace and Sarah tells Rose to "Come find me" after Rose stops traveling with the Doctor.

** While Sarah Jane's initial clashes with Rose can sometimes make her look less sympathetic than intended, Rose also has moments where she accidentally looks like the one in the wrong. Namely, she seems to have thought that she's the only one who's ever travelled with the Doctor in 900 years, and that any other companions are automatically competition. This is especially apparent when compared this to other companions from different eras meeting in [[Recap/DoctorWho20thASTheFiveDoctors "The Five Doctors"]] and [[Recap/DoctorWhoS22E4TheTwoDoctors "The Two Doctors"]]. Yaz and Jack being on friendly terms when they meet later in the Revival Series only amplifies how much Rose stands out; this is the only instance where a companion feels threatened by another.

* NarmCharm: On the other hand, who can take a man best known for playing [[Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow a cross-dresser]] and [[Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer a character who would be trying to kill the Krillitanes]] seriously as a [[MonsteroftheWeek Villain of the Week]]?
** Especially when said villain's [[ThePlan "Master Plan"]] relies on computers: one of his well-known roles was a MadScientist who lived in a Dark Ages-style castle, and the other was a [[BewaretheNiceOnes generally nice,]] slightly introverted librarian with [[HopelesswithTech no computer skills]] who called all computers [[MemeticMutation "that dread machine"]].
** "Forget the shooty dog thing!"
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The episode tries to play up Rose as being disrespectful towards Sarah Jane by bringing up how the Doctor has never mentioned her beforehand, but it comes across more as sassing back after Sarah Jane had just made a shot at Rose's youth, before they are properly introduced to boot.
** Rose, however, can really come across as this, as she seems to have thought that she's the only one who's ever travelled with the Doctor in 900 years, and that any other companions are automatically competition. This is especially prevalent when compared to other companions from different eras meeting, such as Yaz and Jack, Turlough and Susan, Sarah Jane and Tegan, and Peri and Jamie. This is the only instance where a companion feels threatened by another.

Not YMMV, and doesn't really fit the trope; more Fridge Brilliance

* ItMakesSenseInContext: Sarah Jane appears not to count her reunion in ''[[Recap/DoctorWho20thASTheFiveDoctors The Five Doctors]]'' as having reunited with the Doctor again since her departure from him in The ''Hand of Fear''. This may be because in addition to the complete absence of the Fourth Doctor, she never had a chance to interact much with the Fifth Doctor. She may have been under the impression that the Fifth Doctor was a predecessor to the two Doctors that she knew. Also, the Third Doctor, while knowing of his immediate successor as "teeth and curls" does state to Sarah that the change hasn't happened yet. Therefore, Sarah may have figured that these events were occurring during the period when the Doctor's Third incarnation was the latest incarnation. It is also worth noting that when Sarah mentions Tegan in ''[[Recap/TheSarahJaneAdventuresS4E5E6DeathOfTheDoctor Death of the Doctor]],'' she does not talk as if they had actually met each other. So her mind may have been wiped of these events by the Time Lords.

* ContinuityLockout: There is no mention of the events of "K9 and Company", which might leave some viewers confused as to why Sarah has K9 Mark III in her possession considering that K9 Mark I and II only travelled with Leela and Romana (and later Adric) respectively. Ironically, this was the result of a BBC edict that was designed to ''prevent'' Continuity Lockout for newer viewers, with Creator/RussellTDavies having been told not to explicitly reference the events of any pre-2005 stories.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: The Doctor's "half a dozen times" line, mentioned below. Subtle reference to the War Doctor? Simply not counting "The Five Doctors?" Or is it just rounding?

** A confrontation between an iconic British hero and a sharply-dressed AffablyEvil enemy that takes place at a pool, in a BBC show that has had episodes written by Creator/StevenMoffat and Creator/MarkGatiss? [[Series/{{Sherlock}} This isn't the last]] [[Recap/SherlockS01E03TheGreatGame time this will happen.]]
*** Ironic fact that Rajkai Zoltán both voices the Tenth Doctor ([[TheOtherDarrin In the two next seasons]]) and Jim Moriarty in the Hungarian dub.

* HarsherInHindsight: When Sarah Jane mentions that the Doctor has regenerated, he says he's done it "half a dozen times" since he last saw her. At the time the episode was broadcast, it was taken to mean that the last time he saw her was when she left the Fourth Doctor in [[Recap/DoctorWhoS14E2TheHandOfFear "The Hand of Fear"]], which people considered odd, given that she met his fifth incarnation in [[Recap/DoctorWho20thASTheFiveDoctors "The Five Doctors"]]. Following the reveal during the show's 50th anniversary, that line takes a whole new meaning.
