*TheWoobie: Poor, poor Princess Kyte. Straight from her introduction, the poor child can hardly catch a break from suffering the game. She starts the story by having been kidnapped from her home by a sadistic dictator, General Scales, and is held hostage in a small bird caught on his ship. When it at first seems that Krystal has commandeered the ship, she is unable to free Kyte from the cage before Scales takes the ship back and has Kyte imprisoned elsewhere. Later, even after Krystal frees her and gets her back home, she is met with the site of her home, Cloudrunner Fortress, overrun by the Sharpclaw and soon witnesses [[spoiler: Scales murder her mother, with Kyte powerless to help her. Thereafter, she has to take on the responsibility of ruling her tribe in her mother's place; a massive burden for anyone.]] Worse yet, she is only 11 during the events of the game. At least she has Krystal present to support her for the majority of the journey.

** Going with the point above, the audio for the [[spoiler: scene in Blackwater Canyon where Kyte speaks to the ghost of her mother. While it's heartwarming that she at least gets to speak to her mother one last time, it's still saddening that Kyte's only chance to speak since being freed from capture to her mother is after she had already died and that she is now forced to take on the demanding role of queen at a very young age.]] Admittedly the fact this was not animated in the game detracts from the sadness a bit but the voice lines are still saddening to listen to all the same.

* Tear Jerker: The [[spoiler: death of Kyte's mother is keen to tug at one's heartstrings. Even though the Queen does not appear prior to this and the audience does not know her at all as a result, it's still devasting to watch a young girl's mother die right before her eyes. Adding salt to the wound is the fact the Krystal had gone to great lengths to get Kyte back to her home, only for Kyte to see Scales murder her mother.]]
* ViewerSpeciesConfusion: Krystal is a fox just like her ''Franchise/StarFox'' counterpart, but her colour pattern and short muzzle make her look more like a cat to some fans.

** There are some who take a middle ground approach; those who don't mind that development was moved to the Gamecube, but still wish the game could've stayed as ''Dinosaur Planet'' even on that console. The argument is that the Gamecube's more powerful hardware would've allowed the game to flourish more than it ever could on N64, and it was really the numerous changes that prevented that from happening.

* FanPreferredCutContent: Some people prefer this game over ''Star Fox Adventures'' due to there being plenty of interesting content, lore and story that didn't make it to the final game, as well as Krystal having a much more prominent role in the game as a {{Deuteragonist}}, a darker atmosphere and tone with the plot having more moral ambiguity, and the game having a more interesting main villain.

* BrokenBase: The release of the prototype reignited discussion on whether the game would have been better off in its original form or if turning it into ''Star Fox Adventures'' was the right decision, with fans being overall divided on which. Fans who are in favor of ''Dinosaur Planet'' like it for its darker tone, Krystal’s far greater role, larger amount of content, and better villains. Those in favor of ''Star Fox Adventures'' prefer it’s dark yet lighter tone, more polished level design, improved graphics, and find the migration to the Star Fox universe made sense.

* EnjoyTheStorySkipTheGame: Because the leaked build is unfinished, incredibly buggy, and doesn't run well on most emulators, many people interested in ''Dinosaur Planet'' are content with simply watching the cutscenes and story on Website/YouTube, rather than attempting to play through the game themselves.

* ReplacementScrappy: Given that mods to replace Fox's model with Sabre quickly sprung up once the prototype build was leaked, it's safe to say that many fans prefer the original Sabre over his replacement Fox. It doesn't help that, unlike [[VideoGame/StarFoxAdventures the final game]], Fox is just a SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute for Sabre instead of his own distinct character.
