Most of the time, it seems this trope is the main reason why the latter was added to the film version of the story, even though WordOfGod states that it was because he didn't want Coraline to be lonely and talking to herself. It's still painfully obvious on Wybie's side, though.

** Coraline. Tell me you didn't want to give her a big fat hug during the [[spoiler:[[TearJerker pillow parents]]]] scene. You can't, can you?

** All that is big fat fakery, a pathetic last-ditch appeal to the inner humanity that Coraline has and she does not.
*** Still, can't help but think that it was kinda' [[TearJerker sad]]. Of course, this is coming from a person who liked the character, a lot, so [[YourMileageMayVary Your Mileage May Vary]].
**** Morevoer [[spoiler: seems like she isn't dying as she says.]] so she was obviously acting.

* CompleteMonster: [[spoiler: The Other Mother who tricks children into making them living funnier life they've always wanted. Then she literally sucks their life out, not before she has sewn buttons on their eyes. She also seems to enjoy child abuse.]]

** Don't forget how [[spoiler: she cheerfully disfigures and tortures the beings she creates to capture children, just because they try to resist her. Poor Other Wybie and Other Father...]]

* ParanoiaFuel: The doll. Think about it. A foreign object that transforms and moves around your house when you're not looking. And it turns out to be [[spoiler: the Other Mother's spy]]. Which implies [[spoiler: the other mother]] can see through buttons. Sleep tight.

** This troper thought it was pretty obvious that Wybie was black, or at least mixed. It didn't seem at all surprising that his grandmother was black as well.
** Also, the scene where Coraline finds the first soul/eye, specifically the Ghost Boy's dialogue. "Bless you, Miss, you found me! But there are two still lost." The cheery tone combined with the line itself makes it sound more like a bit "[[SuperMarioBros Princess is in another castle]]."

* {{Fetish Fuel}} Coraline's mother / The Other Mother and young Spink and Forcible.
** Both Coraline's mother and The Other Mother are dubbed by Teri Hatcher, so they fits this pefectly.
