* OneSceneWonder: Creator/DustinHoffman, Creator/ScarlettJohansson, Creator/AmySedaris, Creator/RussellPeters, and others make an impact with their small roles. But king of them all is Creator/RobertDowneyJr, who, in a single scene, manages to turn what would otherwise be a one note character into something truly bizarre by turning Tony Stark's worst qualities all the way up to eleven.

* UnconventionalLearningExperience: Show of hands: Who else learned how to make a perfect lava cake from the scene where Carl lights into a food critic?

* HarsherInHindsight / HeartwarmingInHindsight: The film ends with Carl rejecting churning out the same old food for an uptight restaurant, and going further into his indie career. In real life Jon Favreau ended up returning to Disney and Marvel. Depending on one’s point of view of his later work, this could either be viewed as a welcome back to a workplace that was once stringent but now had grown friendlier, or a regression back to mainstream commercialism.

"Idiot Plot" is now Flame Bait.

* IdiotPlot: As Anthony Bourdain taught us all, it is almost required for a chef working in the US to know at least workplace Spanish, or to use the words of the Les Halles head chef that succeeded him: "Mexico is the best part of France." So how the Hell does Carl, a chef from Miami, in LA no less (to say nothing of having been married to a Cuban woman for years) not know a lick of Spanish?

* MemeticMutation: The film gained a bizarre second life in 2015 after WebVideo/FilthyFrank turned his obsession with the movie into a RunningGag, such as insinuating that Jon Favreau is a "God" who taught him how to cook, naming his car "El Jefe" like the food truck, and generally appearing as a FreezeFrameBonus.
