The dramatic OminousLatinChanting piece "Dies Irae" playing during these scenes doesn't help[[note]]especially if you know that some of the lyrics translate to "day of wrath, day of mourning" and "when the world shall dissolve in ashes"[[/note]], and neither does the simulation [[spoiler:eventually exploring two possible future extinction events: a hypothetical extinction of humans and an unknown percentage of other species, and the extinction of ''all'' Earth life when the Sun's aging and eventual death takes the Earth with it, although it does offer a RayOfHopeEnding in that, in that time, some life from Earth may have found its way into space and can continue from there]].
