Actor trivia shoehorn.

* HilariousInHindsight: Ben Mendelsohn was retained as a major cast member for Season 2 by having Danny appear as a vision that haunts the surviving Rayburns. At the same time, he joined the cast of ''Film/RogueOne'', making it easy to make jokes about Danny being a Force ghost.

* {{Narm}}: The incredibly hackneyed and on the nose reference to ''Film/TheGodfather'' at the end of "Part 27."
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: There are times when things are ''so'' bleak and unhappy, for ''everyone'', that continuing to watch can get a little daunting.

* SleeperHit: Was very well received by critics and had enough viewers to get a second season, despite almost no advertising from Netflix.

!! For the TV Series

!! For the video game
* FridgeBrilliance:
** One may wonder why Jim quite apparently perceives Dr. Brown as a [[MagnificentBastard magnificent bastard]] even though the doctor is not very successful at accomplishing his goal or even just maintaining his composure, while Jim easily survives every death trap Dr. Brown sets up. Then remember how Jim ended up in the hospital in the first place: intense paranoia indeed would make him likely to jump to extreme conclusions.
** Jim's demeanor throughout the game exhibits what seems to be a case of [[AngstWhatAngst Angst? What Angst?]], which is perfectly justified by his [[spoiler: schizophrenia]], which causes what's known as flat affect.
* GameBreaker: Almost every monster with melee attacks only will be successfully frozen in place if the player figures to jump on any object higher than ground level. After that, the monster won't even attempt to get out of your line of sight when shot. The entirety of the game can be completed without a single wound if this bug is used.
* MisaimedRealism: One stumping moment is after Jim unlocks the door to the gravedigger's house. Trying to use the door has Jim saying "It's just to turn the doorknob, and I'm in". The non-obvious action is to actually point the cursor at the doorknob and use ''it'' instead of the door itself. This is the only time something in this fashion happens to in-game doors.
* {{Narm}}: A lot. Some examples also double as [[NarmCharm narm charm]].
** "A numb corpse. There's a screwdriver in his hand." Somewhat [[MemeticMutation memetic]] among the tiny community there is. Jim says this when examining the first corpse he encounters.
** ''"The screwdriver has broken."'' Oh, the [[DullSurprise delivery.]]
* SpecialEffectFailure: Jim's lack of jumping and crouching animations can be spotted on the very first level, in the ''only'' mirror present in the game.
* SpiritualAdaptation: The game's premise is surprisingly similar to ''Film/ShutterIsland'', except that the film was released much later.

!! For the Manhua
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** Pep getting the most from the fans. Whether it's due to his CharacterDevelopment, or HoYay with Eagle.
* FoeYayShipping: Sellyew and his relationship with Leng Sha.
* HoYay: Despite being from China, where views on this are not as the same as other countries, readers do see this in Pep and Eagle. Either that or a LoveTriangle with Riya.
* TheWoobie: Losing her father and dream makes Lilo Ai this.
** Then, there are many others. Last, Shin, Cora, Ron, Rae, Pep, and the list will keep going.

* FirstInstallmentWins: Season one is by far the most popular season.

* FirstInstallmentWins: Season one is by far the most popular season. season, to the point where it's been said the show should've just been a miniseries.

Added DiffLines:

* JerkassWoobie: Danny is an undeniable scoundrel, but he wound up that way because his family treated him like one for most of his life. As a teenager, in an attempt to comfort his younger sister, [[spoiler: he accidentally caused her death by drowning.]] Rather than try to ease his guilt, [[spoiler: his father savagely beat and ostracized him over this.]] The injuries he sustained from this experience left him in pain for the rest of his life, with his addiction to pain killers leading him to get addicted to much illegal narcotics and furthering his descent into a criminal lifestyle. Despite enduring his family's scorn for all this time, Danny still wishes to make things right between them and go straight. And though he seems to make genuine progress in doing so, [[spoiler: his father, in their last interaction before his passing, shows he still despises his son and tries to pay him to leave, and after his funeral, Danny discovers that the rest of his family all stood by his dad and lied about his abuse. Enraged by this, Danny then goes off the deep end and does everything in his power to make their lives Hell, all while still being haunted by his deceased sister and listening to a recording of their betrayal to fuel his revenge.]] Though Danny is to blame for making these choices, it's hard to act like his anger is unjustified, and even after [[spoiler: he drives his brother John to murder him, he can't help but weep for his brother]] and express guilt at how they all wronged him to begin with.

Added DiffLines:

* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Danny Rayburn has attracted much hate from his family for decades, but he's easily the show's biggest fan favorite.
