That specific Audience Alienating Premise point doesn't really contribute to the point of why audiences weren't attached; seems more like just one general sticking point.

** Also, the main character is actively hoping his employee's marriage will fail so he can date her. This isn't as sweet as the show seems to think it is.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The biggest complaint among critics is that the premise of placing a WorkCom in a Blockbuster comes with much potential given the brand recognition and nostalgia associated with the store, but the series barely does anything with it. The series takes place in TheNewTwenties in [[TheLastOfHisKind the sole remaining Blockbuster store]], but this setting is practically a non-factor with informing the tone or humor of the series which plays as a very typically warm and quirky sitcom [[AngstWhatAngst very little pathos in Blockbuster's decline]]. A common consensus is that ''Blockbuster'' would've found much more power through [[BlackComedy darker, more satirical meta-comedy]] acknowledging the very real EndOfAnEra (especially obvious given the fact [[DramaticIrony it's being produced by Netflix, a company that indirectly led to its demise]]), or that -- if it really wanted to bank on cozy nostalgia -- it should've simply been a PeriodPiece taking place during the company's heyday.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: The show didn't get as much traction as Netflix hoped, with the most common complaint being that, had it not been set in TheNewTwenties and instead TheNineties or The2000s, then it could've been interesting, as those periods was when Blockbuster Video was at the peak of its popularity. Due to lack of audience growth and a lack of interest by subscribers, it only lasted one season and got axed a month after it came out.

  • that and it was pretty by-the-books sitcom.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Not many people were willing to give the show a chance due to the setting being in TheNewTwenties, as they felt it would've worked better had it taken place during TheNineties and The2000s when Blockbuster Video was at the peak of its popularity. Needless to say, it only lasted one season.
