* BrokenAesop: The main moral of the story is that you shouldn't unfairly judge others for being ugly and that ugliness is not inherently indicative of being bad (and that beauty isn't inherently indicative of "goodness" either). However, the message falls a little short when you consider that all of the main characters, the ones who are supposed to be "ugly," are really not that ugly. In fact, they look no less adorable than Pretty Boy the koala. Despite their real-world counterparts looking anything but.

* TheWoobie: Maddie definitely falls under this category, especially on account of her being separated from her birth family as an egg and raised in captivity, finding out the hard way that humanity regards her and friends as monsters due to Chaz describing them as such during his shows, and being able to do nothing but watch helplessly as Jackie, the closest thing she has to a mother in her life, be taken away over an honest misunderstanding.

* DontShootTheMessage: The film delivers a message of "do not judge a book by its cover" and "inner beauty". However, one criticism from some viewers says this does not work with animals who are legitimately dangerous, humans have every right to be afraid of predators and venomous animals that could harm them anytime, and the moral unfortunately comes off as "it is okay to get close to crocodiles, they just wan to help". To add on, all the dangerous animals, especially the main cast, are made to be as cute as possible, which is rather unfitting for a movie with a message about not judging animals by how they look.

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Drops of Frank’s vomit from feeling queasy vaporizing a man’s café menu and turning his hair into a green mohawk. Before this he pukes on Pretty Boy while they are flying through the air, and a single drop also falls in the mans coffee, but nothing strange happens in those two instances. Nothing like it ever happens in the film again, and what makes this joke even stranger, is that the man’s hair remains in its altered state when he is accidentally tranquilized later, which means it can’t be chalked up to an ImagineSpot.
* GeniusBonus: Norine's backpack has the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Aboriginal_Flag Australian Aboriginal Flag]] on it.

* GeniusBonus: Norine's backpack has the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_Aboriginal_Flag Australian Aboriginal Flag]] on it. So is her usage of 'deadly' - in Aboriginal English, 'deadly' means 'fantastic', 'great' or 'awesome', which is ''exactly'' what she thinks of the main characters.

Moving to the new nightmare fuel page, and adjusting the sentence structure for readability.

* NightmareFuel: Pretty Boy goes from being the most beloved animal in the world to being almost killed by people in the city. All because of him foaming at the mouth being caught on one of the park cameras and it being broadcast all over the world when he was stung by Nigel when he almost could have gotten Maddie and her friends caught by security by casually playing with his windchime.
** When Everyone is dangling on a ladder on a cliff near the end of the movie. It is a high height that falling would kill everyone. Chaz, Chazzie and the Animals would likely die if they fell off the ladder and off the cliff to the hard ground below. Especially Chazzie since he was dangling on the Ladder that was on the cliffside.

Me and some of the people I watched the film with thought Jacinta was a guy, so I’m going to guess some other people made the same mistake.

Even ignoring that this isn't a YMMV trope and shouldn't have been added in the first place, this is full of Conversation In The Main Page.

* CluelessAesop: The lesson of the movie is supposed to be that you shouldn't treat animals poorly just because they look 'ugly', but the leads are designed to look as cute and marketable as possible. The producers of the movie even talked about how ExecutiveMeddling forced the animals to be 'huggable'. Additionally, one of the leads is a spider; Australia's spiders are some of the deadliest in the world, giving them a reason to be feared.
** On the other hand, a problem encountered during production was that people would leave rooms with real-life pictures of the animals in a hurry due to various phobias, so they had to sacrifice some realism to make the characters more palatable to audiences, even if they thought the real animals "looked cooler".
** It could also be argued that the characters looking more huggable fits thematically with the story being primarily told from their perspective, seeing as how the characters themselves don’t believe they are ugly monsters, with their cuter, less intimidating designs also making it easier for people to sympathize with and relate to them.
