** For those that didn't like how the [[Anime/AzurLane previous anime]] omitted the Commander, episode 2 has Prinz Eugen still mention him as in the comics that she's planning a move on him via some chocolate gifts. While still TheGhost as per the comic, it does still address a hole left in the previous anime.
** After said previous anime was more high stakes and action with mixed reception, using this more comedic series of shorts for the basis of the second anime was considered this by a large number of the fandom.
** In the same vein, the increased screen time that Z23 gets has been received well.

** Bismarck's episode in the anime has her meeting up with her sister Tirpitz, something talked about in the latter's skin and referenced in the Manga chapter the episode is based on.
** In Dido's chapter, Laffey consoles her giving her a bit more confidence.

* CharacterRerailment: At least for those that didn't like the plot and characterizations of the serialized [[Anime/AzurLane previous anime]], the SliceOfLife and episodic nature of ''Slow Ahead'' instead focuses on the core personalities of the girls straight out of the game interacting with each other without having to be taken to other directions due to lower stakes and the reintegration of the Commander as a means of keeping unity amongst them. While the girls do get character shifts in the main game's story mode, the previous anime awkwardly gave a number of these developments that would have normally gone to the Commander towards other Ship Girls.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForLittleGirls: Downplayed. Unlike the main game, the leading girls are younger and the marketing focuses more on the "Moe" aspect. ''Like'' the main game, the series is still full of more mature ship girls that are always a MsFanservice, BlackComedy, and the show reminding the viewer that the girls are pretty much Haremettes lusting after the (offscreen) ChickMagnet Commander. These aspects however immediately distance it from "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" SliceOfLife anime that normally fall under this trope, so coupled with knowledge of the main game, viewers are quicker to note that ''Slow Ahead'' isn't targeted to little girls at all.
