It also takes the subtle environmental theme that was present in the first Sonic game and cranks it UpToEleven.

* ObviousBeta: This game runs absolutely abysmally. The framerate is so low that it is unplayable at the best of times. It tops out around 15fps...in some areas it drops to single digits.

* NeverLiveItDown: Sega will never live down giving their seal of approval to this abysmal game with an annoying mascot. Even to this day, this is still considered one of the worst games they have ever been associated with, even if only through a third party (Tengen). Likewise, Tengen is well remembered for being the creators of this game, more so than most of the other games they made, and not in a good way.
