* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: Was Doom only [[ManipulativeBastard manipulating Wanda in his search for power]] and [[KickTheDog responsible for the Mutant Decimation]], as he claimed, or was his love genuine and he only [[TakingTheHeat claimed otherwise to exonerate her]] and [[BreakHerHeartToSaveHer prevent her from having to choose between him and her friends?]]
** This is discussed in-universe, with Wanda's family and friends supporting the interpretation that Doom really was responsible for M-Day, while Wolverine thinks Doom really was in love with Wanda and lying to protect her. Note also that this is the EXACT gambit Doom used to release his mother from Mephisto's realm previously.

Natter, nothing to do with this work

** The same trick was later used to [[spoiler: bring back Night Thrasher, who had originally died during ComicBook/CivilWar2006, in ComicBook/ContestOfChampions2015.]]

Requires Word Of God confirmation

* AuthorsSavingThrow: This story, for fans unhappy with what Bendis did to Scarlet Witch, where an extremely remorseful Wanda is revealed to have been manipulated by Doctor Doom and driven mad by the power of the Life Force.
** When Hawkeye seemingly slept with an [[IdentityAmnesia amnesiac]] Scarlet Witch in an issue of Bendis's ''Comicbook/NewAvengers'', some readers objected that it was [[BedTrick ethically questionable at best]] for him to sleep with a woman who never wanted him when she was herself. This series not only has Jessica Jones call Hawkeye out on this, but reveals that the Wanda in that issue might have been ActuallyADoombot.

* IdiotPlot: A common criticism of the series is how the heroes, particularly the Avengers and the X-Men, always seem to juggle the JerkassBall and the IdiotBall in order to drive the plot forward. The Avengers coldly dismiss Wanda despite all her years serving alongside them and treat her as if she was a monster worse than Magneto. Cyclops acts extremely irrational to the point he wants to put Wanda on trial even though she could provide a possible way to restore the mutant race, while Wolverine becomes uncharacteristically murder-happy even for someone like him that he would be willing to murder children in cold blood. The Young Avengers themselves are not safe from this either, particularly Eli, whose actions inadvertently cause Doom to steal Wanda's powers.

* AssPull: Doom suddenly taking responsibility for the events of ''Avengers Disassembled'' and the Mutant Decimation was received by many as this. Not only was there no {{Foreshadowing}} of this, but it in no way really benefits Doom. It seems that its only purpose is to make the Scarlet Witch look good and (try to) absolve her from the crap she had pulled.

* BrokenBase: Over the decision to [[spoiler: save Scott Lang from his death during ''Avengers Disassembled'' via time travel]]. The aftermath is treated as still being part of the 616 universe, even though normally such an action would result in the creation of a new spinoff universe. People who like the character or dislike Bendis's work on Avengers consider it an AuthorsSavingThrow, but others accuse it of being ArmedWithCanon.
