* GameBreaker: About the only thing that gives a serious edge to the player in this game is the star, an InvincibilityPowerUp that lasts until the player dies, ''even between levels''. Doesn't protect the player against the abundant BottomlessPits, but it still makes large chunks of the game (especially the brutal final screen) much, much easier to manage if you can keep a hold of it.

* GuideDangIt: Several of the hidden areas are well hidden and require either spamming bombs or consulting a guide.
* ItsHardSoItSucks: The game is infamous for its difficulty, from the maze-like levels requiring guides, to an rather inefficient starter weapon, to enemies that kill you in one hit, with no continues either.
