Wrong-way hindsight and Fan Myopia.

* HilariousInHindsight: It becomes even harder to take ''Adrift'' seriously when you realize that an episode of ''WesternAnimation/KingOfTheHill'' used the '''exact''' same plot as the movie one year earlier, except the setup was played for its inherent comedic value rather than drama.

TRS wick cleaning — now Flame Bait and a Definition Only Page. The Audience Alienating Premise entry has also been removed for being complaining

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: Pretty much a given when dealing with a massive IdiotPlot that takes itself completely seriously. Few would like to see such a film.

* IdiotPlot: The plot concerns six people who sail a luxury yacht into the middle of nowhere and decide to go swimming. It would have been nice if one of them had remembered to lower the boarding ladder first. The one hydrophobic woman who didn't want to go swimming gets thrown overboard by her 'friend' trying to cure her fear of water. So now we have six people trapped in the water and an infant alone on board. Believe it or not the stupidity level increases from there.

None

* IdiotPlot: The plot only happens because the main characters all jump in the water for a swim far out of reach of any shoreline and without preparing the ladder to get back on. Then none of the characters use buoyancy to their advantage and tire themselves out nor the fact there is enough of them to easily create a lift. Should they do any of that, they would be out of water in less than 10 seconds.

* {{Sequelitis}}: The first film got generally positive reviews, while this got mostly negative ones due to the stupidity of the characters and the GainaxEnding.
* TearJerker:
** James getting progressively worse as ''Adrift'' goes along and his wife singing "Frère Jacques" softly --the way he did for her when she was in a catatonic state of panic--[[spoiler: after he dies. Especially painful because he was the only halfway smart guy in the film before he got that crack on the skull.]]
** James telling his wife not to cry.
** Constantly having to see baby Sarah cry out for hunger after being left alone on the boat ''after the stupid decisions everyone did''. [[spoiler: Add the fact she's left behind again over the stupid GainaxEnding]].
* WhatAnIdiot: The people on the boat, both in the movie and in real life.
