* HilariousInHindsight: This 2015 movie is about Elizabeth anticipating that she'll be Queen one day, and ends with her affirming her life of duty after one evening of fun. The very next year, ''Series/TheCrown2016'' starts airing; and that series begins with her becoming queen. Some even joked that ''A Royal Night Out'' was a prequel.

Added DiffLines:

* RetroactiveRecognition:
** Bel Powley is more recognisable now, having since starred in ''Series/TheMorningShow'', the ''Benidorm'' sitcom and as the voice of Little My in ''WesternAnimation/{{Moominvalley}}''.
** Jack Reynor was known for ''Film/TransformersAgeOfExtinction'', but this was right before appearing in more remembered films like ''Film/SingStreet'' and ''{{Film/Midsommar}}''.

* HeReallyCanAct: After playing a character who was TheScrappy in ''Film/TransformersAgeOfExtinction'', Jack Reynor proves that ''Film/WhatRichardDid'' was not a fluke. He gives a very subtle and layered performance as a ShellShockedVeteran, more than holding his own against the two leads. More superficially, he also nails the 1940s era cockney accent.

** Jack and Elizabeth's first meeting, where he notices the posh voice.
--> '''Jack:''' Family well-off by any chance?
--> ''beat''
--> '''Elizabeth:''' [[{{Understatement}} We manage]].
** Elizabeth and Margaret are escorted to a posh hotel where they expect they'll start their evening mingling with people on the dance floor. [[spoiler:Instead they get led into a small room filled with Upper Class couples all of them old enough to be the princesses' ''grandparents''. Both girls are not thrilled.]]
** Margaret sharing a car with a car full of prostitutes who have no idea they're talking to the ''princess''.
--> '''Margaret:''' Mother wanted me back before 1.
--> '''Prostitute:''' She's got lofty expectations, that mother of yours.
** And Elizabeth's realisation of the situation. "My sister has gone to Chelsea with a carload of tarts!"
** Capt Pryce is interrupted in the middle of a good shag and angrily asks who's on the phone...only to be told it's the King.
** Margaret drunkenly stumbling home at 6 am. Just like any young woman coming home from a night out. Except in this case she's the princess and it's the gates of Buckingham Palace.
--> '''Margaret:''' Coo-ee!
** Margaret introduces herself to the owner of the...ahem...knock-in-shop. "I'm P2, Princess number two! No one cares what I do."
** And at Chelsea Barracks, two soldiers get into a tug of war over who gets to dance with Margaret. They even pull rank on each other.
--> '''Margaret:''' Well I outrank both of you!

** Elizabeth [[spoiler:barely has time to enjoy her night out as she spends most of it trying to catch up to Margaret as her younger sister innocently gets dragged off into the night for wacky hijinks. That's how much she cares about her sister.]]
** Elizabeth finally argues for the night out by suggesting to her father that they could go among the masses and listen to the King's Speech declaring the end of the European war to find out "if the people like it." [[spoiler:She's in a public house when the speech is broadcast. When Jack loudly snarks at it, the entire pub rises to the King's defense and tosses Jack out on his rear.]] She later [[spoiler:tells her father at breakfast that the people ''loved'' the speech, which improves King George's mood.]]
** King George [[spoiler:admitting he let his daughters - especially Elizabeth - go out because "It's going to be her world soon."]]

** The scene where the King and Queen address the public, followed by a montage of the people celebrating. Elizabeth is hugged and kissed by complete strangers and is pleasantly surprised by it. It's a wonderful recreation of a moment where the whole nation was united by the celebration of Victory in Europe, despite the losses suffered.
** As Elizabeth and Jack ride on a tugboat, they pass some of the damage suffered by the Blitz, with Jack offering harsh commentary on how people's lives were ruined. But Elizabeth notices [[StiffUpperLip a couple arranging their dinner in a bombed-out apartment]] and notes that people still managed.
** In an interesting background moment, as Elizabeth and Jack [[spoiler:walk down the halls of the Palace they do so as the boards covering the windows are being taken down, allowing sunlight into the hallway]]. It's a subtle indication that with the War over - at least in Europe - there's no more need for blackouts and that life is returning to normal.
** Elizabeth [[spoiler:finally getting that kiss from Jack the whole movie's been building up to.]]

* TearJerker:
** During the otherwise lovely VE night celebrations, Elizabeth catches sight of a few people crying into each other's arms. She also asks a stranger if she lost someone in the war, to which the woman becomes a little misty-eyed. It goes to show that, although it was a time for celebration, there were still people who had lost friends and loved ones in the War.
** The MoodWhiplash towards the end where Elizabeth excitedly talks about a hypothetical life where she wouldn't have to be a princess. As it goes on, Jack has to bring her down to Earth by saying "we both know that's never gonna happen". Elizabeth's cheerful excitement vanishes, and she can only reply with a quiet (but no less sad) "quite".
** A subtler example is the scene where Jack has found out her true identity. Look at it from his perspective; this friend he's spent all night with has lied to him about who she is. He's already prejudiced against the upper class and he's probably thinking she was just {{Troll}}ing him. Note that this comes after he's opened up about having his stripes taken off him and his friend dying in his arms.
--> "You made a first class ''prat'' out of me!"

Shown Their Work isn\'t YMMV.

* ShownTheirWork: King George and Queen Elizabeth were indeed quite popular with the public during that particular time. They had stayed in London in Buckingham Palace throughout the war, rather than evacuating to somewhere safer - and they retained their popularity afterwards.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: The Queen Mother in real life was known to be a charming and witty CoolOldLady. She doesn't feature too much in this film, mostly as a rather stuffy UpperClassTwit.
