* BrokenAesop: This happens between routes. Lottie's route ends with Sara telling her that if someone keeps hurting her on a regular basis, she should get away from that person even if there are still good moments- specifically Miss Minchin, who had repeatedly abused [[spoiler:Sara after she became a servant]] and had just tried to make an extremely insincere appeal to Sara to get her to stay. Lavinia's route depicts her as a LovingBully, resulting in the relationship flip-flopping between tender moments and Lavinia being a ManipulativeBitch towards Sara. That route still gets a happy ending.

* MoralEventHorizon: Miss Minchin [[spoiler:selling Sara's belongings and forcing her to become a servant when her father dies deep in debt]] is a cruel act, but one that is arguably necessary due to the circumstances, not to mention kinder than [[spoiler:simply throwing Sara out on the street]]. However, by the time Miss Minchin forces [[spoiler:Sara(as well as Becky in Becky's route)]] to go without food for an entire day when they're already underfed and routinely missing meals, as punishment for offenses that they're not guilty of and/or [[DisproportionateRetribution are too minor to warrant such a punishment]](the acts in question depend on the route), not to mention caning Sara on Lavinia's route, she's well past the hope of redemption. Partly as a result of this incident, [[spoiler:Sara cuts ties with Miss Minchin the first opportunity she gets]].

** While Lavinia is often casually cruel, she only crosses the line on Jessie's route, when, after Jessie gives Sara a golden heart, Lavinia lies to Miss Minchin, claiming that the heart is hers and Sara stole it. She could have gotten Sara sent to prison if Miss Minchin hadn't been too busy.

Some see Lavinia an [[BrokenBird insecure, lonely, troubled girl]] who really wants Sara's approval and love but doesn't know how to adequately express it because of [[InternalizedCategorism her upbringing and]] [[HalfBreedDiscrimination self-loathing in regards to not being considered a proper English lady]], as per Victorian era expectations. But others say she's a manipulative, cruel, backstabbing bitch who is showing signs of being a potential {{Domestic Abuse}}r, with some interpreting her route as being in an abusive relationship.

Sara does call Lavinia out on her behavior, whether openly or mentally, and goes so far as to question whether they were really friends, while Lavinia expresses remorse for some of her actions, such as trying to force Sara to give up Emily in order to feel superior to her. In the end, though, Sara forgives Lavinia, so for fans, their opinion on Lavinia depends on whether she deserves that forgiveness.

** Vigor in Act 1. It can only be gained through practicing dance, playing with toys, going for a walk or holding a tea party, and only one point each. You can double all Vigor by practicing dance, but that's only one of three outcomes, and only has much effect at the end of the week.
** Pain in Act 2. You can get it from each task except Run Errands, but only from one of the outcomes, and none of them grant more than one Pain each, so it can be difficult to gather if you're focusing on it.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Out of all the girls, Jessie is undeniably the most popular and the most talked about. Look on any discussion of this game on the Steam community, and there's nobody who won't talk about Jessie. This is likely in part due to her AscendedExtra status, her well written story line, being given CharacterDevelopment, and her beautiful design.

* JerkassWoobie: Lavinia. She commits many cruel acts, even on her route, but is incredibly insecure, especially because of being half-Indian.
* TheWoobie: All of the main characters qualify to varying extents, but Becky stands out. She's a serving girl who's treated as less than human by Miss Minchin, and even the other girls ostracize due to her being of a lower class than them. She lost both of her parents, spent much of her childhood in a workhouse and doesn't enjoy luxuries the other girls take for granted. Naturally, [[spoiler:Sara herself]] becomes a woobie when she ends up in similar situations to Becky.
