* Bramblestar especially has had to endure harsh criticism and grew up with his mentor, Firestar, who saw Tigerstar in Bramblestar occasionally, something beyond his control. His beloved sister, Tawnypelt, is in another Clan and his half-brother, Hawkfrost whom he wanted to be friends with, ends up betraying him and trying to kill him and his leader, forcing Bramblestar to kill him instead, for which he is clearly regretful, even though it needed to be done. Squirrelflight, his LoveInterest and eventual mate, has thrown some pretty bad insults at him and also never told him about Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, and Lionblaze not being his kits, causing him to break up with her. Then in ''The Last Hope'', his surrogate daughter Hollyleaf dies, as does his leader and former mentor Firestar. Then in ''Bramblestar's Storm'', he wants to get back together with Squirrelflight, but is struggling with following in Firestar's footsteps watching many of his Clanmates die before his eyes. It's also hinted that Squirrelflight is infertile. Then his sister's Clan is nearly wiped out ''twice''. Finally, he meets a former kittypet, who lost her Twolegs, who seems like a new option, but then she leaves Bramblestar. Things turn up for him at the end as his surrogate son has kits, and gets back together with Squirrelflight who both find out that Squirrelflight can have kits. And then, seasons later, his body ends up being taken over by someone who definitely has sinister intentions, and he's now stuck as a ghost, unable to go to the afterlife and desperately running around the Clans with only one cat being able to see him. Bramblestar is later imprisoned in the Dark Forest by his impostor, now revealed to be [[spoiler:Ashfur, his old rival for Squirrelflight's affections]], who [[BrainWashedAndCrazy mind-controls]] him into attacking his beloved mate. Thank StarClan (and Shadowsight, Rootspring and Bramblestar himself) that Bramblestar regains his body and returns to the living world with his mate.[[spoiler: In ''A Starless Clan'', it is revealed that despite his happy reunion with his mate, Bramblestar is still haunted and tormented by the memory of his experiences while out of his body; it's even implied he has developed PTSD as a result. Because his body was used to cause harm, many of his Clanmates are still scared of him, so once again Bramblestar has deal with other cats distrusting him for something beyond his control]]

* Bumble. She’s a friendly, outgoing kittypet who forms a friendship with Turtle Tail, but Gray Wing holds a petty grudge against her for “stealing” his friend from him and is frequently hostile to her for no reason. She’s later trapped in an abusive relationship with Tom, who beats her whenever their Twolegs aren’t around, and when she seeks asylum with Tall Shadow’s group, nearly everyone, even Turtle Tail, her only friend; even characters like her and Gray Wing who the narrative frames as the “good guys,” cruelly reject her; all the while insulting her to her face by calling her soft, lazy, weak, fat, etc., dismissing her concerns & downplaying the severity of her situation, and even victim-blaming her for the abuse she faces. Apart from Gray Wing, who was always jealous of her, Tall Shadow is particularly dismissive of her, seeming detached from what life is like for cats outside of the group, while Wind Runner and Gorse Fur want to force her out so they can get in instead. But most hypocritically of all, Turtle Tail had chosen the life of a kittypet, been abused by the exact same cat, had also faced prejudice from the moor cats upon returning because the life of a kittypet had supposedly made her soft and disloyal…only for her to turn around and refuse her friend shelter when Bumble had gladly welcomed her into her own home. Later on, Clear Sky finds her alone and starving, attacks her, and leaves her to be mauled by a fox; claiming he “went to find help” only when the others arrived by the time it was already too late.

* Ashfur of all cats, surprisingly. While his evil actions cannot be excused by any means, an article posted by the official ''Warriors'' website points out that Ashfur did [[https://warriorcats.com/content/article/ashfur-did-starclan-make-a-mistake lose his mother at a very young age, and may explain his obsessive pursuit over Squirrelflight]] and his ControlFreak nature. His closest companions (Ferncloud and Cloudtail) got mates relatively quickly into their warriorhood and focused on their new families, while Ashfur's only other friend (Brambleclaw) became his rival for Squirrelflight's affections. Moreover, in ''The Broken Code'' Ashfur shows very clear signs of a mental disorder, likely what seems to be a stereotypical portrayal [[UsefulNotes/PersonalityDisorders a cluster-b personality disorder]], and is seemingly unable to understand that he is ''not'' the victim and he's a very bad person, let alone claiming he loves Squirrelflight yet tries to control and hurt her and her loved ones. One may reasonably deduce that Ashfur just didn't get the help he needed and it festered into what he became later in his life.

* Dustpelt. Just Dustpelt. To start, he loses his mentor, Redtail, then his father, then before Dawn ends, he has lost Hollykit, Larchkit, and Shrewpaw. And then The Last Hope happens and Ferncloud dies. Then he loses three more of his kits in Bramblestar's Storm, before dying himself. All he's ever wanted since most of his family died was death. Poor guy...

* Mapleshade. Once a kind-hearted, albeit rather naive [=ThunderClan=] warrior, Mapleshade had a forbidden love affair with a [=RiverClan=] tom named Appledusk, and had his kits. When her Clan found out, they furiously cast her and her kits out into a violent storm. In desperation, Mapleshade tried to take her kits to their father, but a flood swept them away and they drowned. Blaming Mapleshade for their kits' deaths, Appledusk cast her out too, and took a new mate. Now completely alone, utterly heartbroken, her mind crawling with hallucinations of her drowned kits, Mapleshade's grief and rage twisted her into a vengeful murderer, then the most feared cat in the Dark Forest, and finally one of the darkest and most dangerous villains the Clans had ever faced.

* Feathertail. She and her brother grew up in an incredibly volatile time period as Tigerstar rose to power. After being traumatized by her own leader ordering Stonefur to kill her and her brother, as well as his subsequent sacrifice, she developed severe trust issues and felt like an outsider in her own Clan because of how everyone seems to have just moved on from what happened as well as her half-Clan heritage, while her brother seemed to fit right in. She gets punished for defending her friend Ferncloud, a [=ThunderClan=] cat, from bullies from her own Clan who wanted to beat her up ''just because they felt like it'', and when she finally makes a new friend who understands what it’s like to feel like an outsider, it turns out that said new friend was Tigerstar’s mate and she still has feelings for him. The cherry on top is that, once she’s finally able to heal from her trauma, forgive her leader, and feel like she truly belongs in her Clan, [=StarClan=] chooses her to go on a journey that she doesn’t yet realize that SHE WILL NEVER RETURN FROM. As the traveling group she’s with is heading home from the Sun-drown-place, they decide to take a shortcut. As a result, her brother is held captive by cats who believe he is the chosen one who will save them from a mountain lion, but it turns out that ''she'' is the actual chosen one, and she sacrifices her life to save everyone else.

* Crookedstar. After the accident that twisted his jaw, his own mother practically disowned him (he was still a kit at the time), choosing to favor his brother Oakheart instead. Crookedstar goes on to lose the mother he wanted so desperately to earn the love of, his mate, two of his three kits, and eventually his third kit Silverstream (his mate and kits were sick and all but Silverstream died shortly after birth). Yet at the end, he was able to confront the cat that did all of this to him (Mapleshade) and truthfully tells her that he regrets nothing and is content with his life despite the overwhelming pain each death brought him. He knew he would see his loved ones again in StarClan and no matter what Mapleshade did, he would never allow her to bring him down like she wanted. He died a happy cat and, as the book Cats of the Clans mentioned, was one of the brightest and strongest leaders the Clans have ever seen.

As a result, her brother is held captive by cats who believe he is the chosen one who will save them from a mountain lion, but it turns out that ''she'' is the actual chosen one, and she sacrifices her life to save everyone else.

** Secondly, there was everything she had to go through because of the prophecy with the Three. In order to peer pressure her into raising Leafpool’s kits as her own, [=StarClan=] told her that she was barren and would never have her own kits, then several books later she find out that THIS WAS A LIE and they were emotionally manipulating her into doing what they wanted. Then, after these kits have known her as their mother their whole lives, she’s forced to reveal the truth to keep Ashfur from killing them, and they immediately turn on her and reject her as their mother. Then her adopted daughter snaps and reveals the truth at a Gathering, causing her entire Clan to turn on her and her sister, and almost immediately afterwards she gets caught in a rockslide and is presumed dead. Then, when it turns out she isn’t dead, she gets KilledOffForReal one book later (not to mention her father also dies in the same book, and her mother dies in the first book of the subsequent arc). Finally, she and her sister get caught in another rockslide, die, and are judged by [=StarClan=] for actions that they themselves were largely manipulated by [=StarClan=] into committing (and that many of the [=StarClan=] cats judging them had committed themselves) and are forced to prove themselves, and when it’s all over Squirrelflight is allowed to return to the living world to be with her mate and daughter, but Leafpool, her sister and closest companion whom she ''literally shared a telepathic soul-bond with'', chooses to stay behind, dying for real.

** Firstly, she is treated horribly by both of her love interests.
*** Ashfur treats her kindly at first, but after she rejects him he shows his true colors as a clingy, jealous incel who becomes hellbent on making her suffer just because she didn’t want a romantic relationship with him; first by conspiring to kill her father, then by attempting to kill her kits, and finally by planning to reveal her secret at the Gathering. Even in death, he is not satisfied, and he possesses her current mate, initiates a hostile takeover of the living Clans and a campaign to punish “codebreakers,” cuts off their connection to [=StarClan=], manipulates Shadowsight into doing his dirty work, traps the ghosts of dead cats in the Dark Forest and enslaves their minds, and commits so many other atrocities all out of the delusional hope that Squirrelflight will take him back.
*** While he is nowhere near as bad as Ashfur and has many moments of being very kind to her, Bramblestar doesn't always treat Squirrelflight as well as he should. He doesn't always listen to her, often berates her too harshly, and even when she grows up, he sometimes treats her as if she is a whiny, childish apprentice, even when she brings up valid points. Alas, [=StarClan=] prophesied that they would end up together, and so their will be done.
