* {{Bowdlerize}}: Enchantix's redesign in Season 8 makes the outfits ''far'' less revealing than they were originally (in order to make the show more suitable for younger children), and add a bit of pink details on top of that.

* MeaningfulName: Stella means "star" in Italian, and she has sun and moon based powers (or could be a take on "stellar"). Flora means "flowering," and she has plant-based powers. Musa is Italian for "Muse," a Greek goddess of the arts, particularly music. Tecna has technology-based powers. Icy has ice based powers, Darcy has powers based on darkness, and Stormy has storm / weather and electric-based powers. Bloom's name is more of a pun, though, as her fairy heritage started to "bloom" once she met Stella and enrolled at Alfea.

* WitchSpecies: All girls from the magic dimension are born with power over an element, and given the choice to be a fairy or a witch, and some (Mirta) can change their position. The exceptions are when their element can only be bad (darkness) or purely good (light, Dragon Fire). However, people usually choose their family's position. To be more specific, since Bloom has the Dragon Flame (the "flame of life"), she would automatically be a fairy; a fairy with power over mundane fire could become a witch.

** Icy can easily break herself out of being sealed into ice and sent to the Omega Dimension. {{Justified}} because [[AnIcePerson controlling ice and cold is her power]].

** The Omega Dimension is an ice planet where criminals are sent. Just about the entire planet is frozen, so anyone stuck on it has to rely on magic or scattered gadgets to survive. {{Justified}} because there's a snake monster in charge of keeping the place frozen.

* AcademyOfAdventure: All three schools. Alfea has many secrets; Cloudtower turned out to be housing three delinquent teenage witches who never seemed to go to class (and the school was the usual occupying hideout for the season's evil villain); Redfountain is a school for young heroes and the headmaster is a wizard, but none of the boys have magic.
* AcademyOfEvil: The Cloudtower school for witches initially seems like one, but it's {{subverted}} as [[DarkIsNotEvil most witches such as Miss Griffin are mostly good-hearted]], even if they are mischievous or jerks sometimes.

* AffablyEvil: It's implied in the first season that the witches of Cloudtower are more mischievous than evil, excluding the Trix. Sure, they cause trouble and mayhem, but they wouldn't cross the line into trying to kill someone. After Season 1, most of them [[HeelFaceTurn serve as allies.]]

* {{Bizarchitecture}}: Cloudtower.

** In one episode of Season 6, Stella gets brainwashed by a magic mirror under Selena's influence.

** After the Winx break into Cloudtower without permission, Faragonda strips them of their powers temporarily as punishment. The Nick recaps instead have the removal of powers be a school exercise.

* CombatPragmatist: Valtor is willing to use any magic spell that is effective against the Winx, and uses Cloudtower itself to fight them as well. He also killed Bloom's parents by trapping her mother Marion, and then when Oritel tried to free her, Valtor sneaked up behind and nailed them both. At least that's what he says to Bloom hen the Winx storm Cloudtower. [[spoiler: It's later revealed that he lied.]]

* LiveActionAdaptation: A [[Series/FateTheWinxSaga live-action adaptation]] is in the works, set to be released in 2020.

* MageTower: The Cloudtower school for witches is a tall tower. It can change its own structure, and the presence of dark magic in it makes Cloudtower bad for fairies to stay in for a long time.

* MindRape: Darcy does this to Riven when they imprison him in Cloudtower once he outlived his usefulness. She had him think six dopplegangers appeared in his cell, seemingly taunting him, then they melt and merge to form a horrifying monster, scaring the crap out of Riven. He then noticed the monster was copying his actions, like a mirror reflection. This was basically forcing Riven to take a long HARD look at himself as the monster served as a reflection of his soul, considering his past actions against his real friends.
* MindScrew: The first part of season 3's episode 24 somewhat feels this way with the way the scenes keep switching between dream and reality, to the point where it's a bit difficult to tell which one is which until the Winx get to Cloudtower.
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf: Done to Riven by Darcy in season one where he was imprisoned in Cloudtower. See Mind Rape above.

* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: Only the person who unlocked the Legendarium can re-lock it, in this case, Selena is the only one who can turn the Legendarium key and lock it for good.

* WhatTheHellHero: In the sixth episode of the first season, the girls go to Cloudtower to retrieve Stella's ring. Rather than get the heck out of there, Bloom decides it's a good idea to go snooping around the library to find out about her past, despite Tecna warning her multiple times it's dangerous. Turns out she should've listened, as not only does the group get caught, they nearly get ''killed''. Granted, that was Stella's doing (she mistakenly set the room on fire), but still.

** Dark magic does this to those who can't handle it. Bloom got a taste of it when she was infected with the shadow virus. Witch schools like Cloudtower exist mainly to prevent this.

* WizardingSchool: Alfea School for Fairies and Cloudtower School for Witches (the most literal wizarding school). Third season character Chimera attended another magic school called Beta Academy, but whether it's for witches or fairies isn't clear.

* AbsenteeActor: Unsurprisingly, the only main character to appear in every episode is Stella.

* OurWitchesAreDifferent: Witches are [[WitchSpecies their own species]] and the EvilCounterpartRace to [[OurFairiesAreDifferent Fairies]]. Both are all-female.

* WitchSpecies: Subverted, sort of. The creator confirms that all girls from the magic dimension are born with power over an element, and given the choice to be a fairy or a witch, and some (Mirta) can change their position. * DismantledMacGuffin: The Codex is split into four parts, hidden in the three schools and Pixie Village. All four are necessary to open the portal to the Realix dimension. Despite the Winx's best efforts, [[spoiler:they are unable to stop Darkar getting them]].

** When Aisha sacrificed her chance to heal her eyesight in the case of Queen Ligea to earn her Enchantix, she could've waited until the next sunset to use the Coral Gem to heal her then. Then again, Faragonda reveals she has the power of the Fairy Dust, which she does use.

* ForHalloweenIAmGoingAsMyself: The Winx were as themselves in their transformation outfits to a halloween party.

** Knut, Trix's ogre, in Season 1. When the Trix took over the Magical Dimension, [[EvenEvilHasStandards he realizes]] that they are mad and are dangerous and decides to flee with Pepe to Red Fountain. He become the Alfea's new janitor.

* HeroesWantRedHeads: Sky and Bloom. Diaspro too, though she's not exactly a "hero".

* NotAllowedToGrowUp: A very odd case of this. Throughout the first three seasons, the Winx fairies grow into young adults and graduate Alfea in the first movie, with the fourth season explicitly having them be adults. However, every season ''after'' the fourth ignores this due to the writers [[SoftReboot subtly changing]] the series to appeal to younger audiences, including making the Club into perpetual teens.

* LoveConfession: Sky pulls one of these at the end of season two [[spoiler: [[IKnowYouAreinTheresomewhereFight while fighting a brainwashed Bloom]] and trying to protect the [[StoryBreakerPower Ultimate Power]]]]

* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:Nebula tries to die with the Fairy Hunters after redeeming herself, but Bloom has averted it]].
* RelationshipRevolvingDoor: Musa and Riven. There are ''rollercoasters'' that have less dips and turns than the relationship between these two. It got so bad that Riven not only broke up with Musa, but was also PutOnABus -- only to reconcile and get back with her two seasons later.

* DisneyDeath: Happens to Sky in season 2, and Flora and Tecna in season 3. [[spoiler: averted in season 4 with Nabu and a straight example would be Sky's father, Erendor in the second movie after [[TakingTheBullet taking an attack that was meant for Bloom]]. Oritel uses some of the remaining magical energy that was still on his sword to revive him.]]

* OnlyOneFemaleMold: About the only physical differences between the females are in the hair styles, clothing and colors. It only got worse as the series went on -- come season five, it's clear they just reused the same CG model for each Winx girl. The Sirenix and Harmonix outfits themselves all look very similar to each other, much more so than in the past transformations, starting a tread that continued all the wasy up to season 8.

* OnlySixFaces: About the only physical differences between the females are in the hair styles, clothing and colors. Several background personages come back in different roles they can't possibly combine without having actual doppelgangers running around. ''And it's getting worse.'' In season five, it's clear they just reused the same CG model for each Winx girl. The Sirenix and Harmonix outfits themselves all look very similar to each other, much more so than in the past transformations, starting a tread that hasn't stopped at the time of this writing (September 2016).

** Riven's backstory is only revealed in supplemental material[[note]]he was abandoned by his mother at a young age and forced to spend most of his childhood alone[[/note]], [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot yet this is never brought up in either the original series or the revival series]].
