* BumblingDad: Deconstructed. Homer, as usual, is a comically incompetent man, but his stupidity in this film leads to him and his family becoming pariahs and his city nearly being destroyed. His character arc culminates in him finally assuming responsibility for his moronic actions and growing to become Springfield's hero.

** In the movie, Homer's normally idiotic, selfish behaviour creates some real problems with his family for the first time in years. Bart begins to despise his father because of Homer's lack of care and hilarious abuse for him and tries to find a father figure in Ned, and Marge eventually leaves him for being a selfish, apathetic dick, taking the children with her.

** Homer tells Marge that Spider-Pig Is now [[Franchise/HarryPotter Harry Plopper]]. ''Film/HarryPotterAndTheOrderOfThePhoenix'' was released the same year as this feature.

* GoodParents: Ned Flanders is portrayed as this, as his [[TheFundamentalist Fundamentalist]] and OverprotectiveDad tendencies are downplayed.

* DramaticIrony: The second part of Abe's vision, "a thousand eyes", becomes true after a chipmunk falls into the re-polluted lake and becomes a mutant with many, many eyes. Marge never finds out about it and is subsequently left clueless after the movie about what "a thousand eyes" meant.

* IdenticalStranger: Bart face-doodles on a "wanted" poster of the Simpson family - only for a family to appear which looks identical to the Simpsons except that they also have the doodles bart added. Of course, they get arrested while the Simpsons walk free.

PostClimaxConfrontation: Just as Springfield has been saved and everything seems to be fine again, Russ Cargill comes out of nowhere with a shotgun and attempts to kill Homer and Bart, but Maggie luckily knocks Russ out with a large boulder.
