[[spoiler:In "Belly of the Beast", Vax communes with the Matron of ''Ravens'', a goddess who explains these threats represent Fate, and she has the ability to use them to guide people towards their destiny -- such as by bringing Vox Machina together, as the opening sequence suggests]].

These are all huge stretches.

* ActorAllusion:
** When a child sees Vax doing some tricks with a coin, the kid asks if he's a wizard. Creator/LiamOBrien, the voice of Vax, played the wizard Caleb Widogast in Campaign 2 of ''WebVideo/CriticalRole''.
** While Brimscythe was already dubbed the Iron Storm in the original web show, here he's voiced by Creator/DavidTennant, who as the Tenth Doctor boasted "I'm the oncoming storm" (a nickname given to him by his enemies).
*** On top of that Brimscythe has a horde of gold and treasures, enough gold [[WesternAnimation/DuckTales2017 one could swim in it...]]
** Vax calls Percy a "preening peacoated peacock", which applies to Creator/TaliesinJaffe's ostentatious tiefling from Campaign 2 of ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'', Mollymauk Tealeaf.
** Creator/AshleyJohnson was in ''Film/TheAvengers2012'' as Beth the waitress, who tells the camera that Franchise/CaptainAmerica saved her life. Pike fights with a round shield made of light similar to Cap's, and she can throw the shield as well as ShieldSurf.
** In Episode 10, Scanlan mentions that, now they've found evidence of the Briarwoods' deeds, they could easily settle things with them in court instead of in battle. His actor, Creator/SamRiegel, voices Phoenix Wright in the ''Franchise/AceAttorney'' series, which he also occasionally referenced on-stream.

It was a revivify spell, but it still required a full ritual skill challenge (something Matt doesn't normally do for revivify), and it caused a strain on Vax and Percy's relationship in the stream too. I think the gravitas it got in the show is identical.

** In the podcast, [[spoiler:Vex's first death via the trapped sarcophagus was immediately solved with a quick ''Revivify'' spell. In the show's rendition, not only does her death take an entire episode to undo, but its treated with ''far'' more emotional gravitas than in the podcast and has lasting consequences regarding Percy and Vax's relationship.]]

Added DiffLines:

** The fight against Umbrasyl, and his eventual death, also adapts Scanlan's CharacterDevelopment and awakening of Mythcarver, something which occurred in the City of Brass sub-arc much later in the campaign itself. As a result, it's Scanlan who gets the killing blow instead of Grog, in a moment similar to his killing of the Pit Fiend Ghurrix in the campaign.

Added DiffLines:

** In the campaign, Grog got the killing blow on Umbrasyl, smashing his head in almost the exact same way he kills Brimscythe in the show. [[PragmaticAdaptation So to avoid redundancy]], he's instead killed by Scanlan awakening Mythcarver.
