The series follows Cuphead (Tru Valentino) and Mugman (Creator/FrankTodaro), the two youthful brothers under the care of The Elder Kettle. Despite their elderly advice and best judgment, the duo gets themselves into various misadventures across Inkwell Isle to break up their monotonous lives. These events include getting themselves at a soul-sucking carnival managed by The Devil (Luke Millington Drake), babysitting a rambunctious child, or being on a game show hosted by King Dice (Creator/WayneBrady).

* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Elder Kettle in the games is an easygoing CoolOldGuy that advises Cuphead and Mugman about how to beat the Devil, rolling with the punches. In the trailer, he's a little sterner with them because Cuphead has a habit of finding shortcuts for chores-- like launching paint from a cannon to whitewash a fence.
* AdaptationalVillainy: Crossing over with AdaptationalPersonalityChange. In the game, Ollie Bulb (the onion of the Root Pack) is a crybaby that attacks you with his own tears and seems to be the TokenGoodTeammate of the group. From the little we've seen of him, he seems to be as much of a bad guy as Chauncey and Sal, with no hints of being the crybaby he is in canon.

* AdaptationDyeJob: In the trailers, Elder Kettle spots a noticeably different color pallette compared to his appearance in the game, with him being gray and blue in the show as opposed to the beige and green he was in the game.

* AsideGlance: The devil grins at the audience when everyone bails and says, "I do love it when they run."

* EveryoneHasStandards: While Cuphead and Mugman are quick to break the no fightiing rule, they do obey the rule of not touching Old Kettle's radio.

* BigBrotherInstinct: At the least, ambiguous-age brother instinct. When the Devil attempts to steal Cuphead's soul via the skeeball machine, Mugman physically grabs the soul and forces it back into his brother. Only when Cuphead revives do they run for it.

''The Cuphead Show'' is an upcoming Creator/{{Netflix}} animated series based on the Creator/FleischerStudios-inspired run and gun platformer of [[VideoGame/{{Cuphead}} the same name]]. The series is created and executive produced by the game's creators Chad and Jared Moldenhauer, alongside Creator/KingFeaturesSyndicate. Creator/DaveWasson (''WesternAnimation/MickeyMouse2013'') serves as another major developer and producer for the series. Animation services are provided by Lighthouse Studios, an Ireland-based division between Creator/MercuryFilmworks and Creator/CartoonSaloon.

Originally announced in 2019, the series eventually got a sneak peek at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2020. The series is expected to debut on February 18, 2022, with a season of 12 episodes.

* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: As seen in the Geeked Trailer, King Dice leans more into his Music/CabCalloway inspiration upon arriving at his game show: Roll The Dice. His entrance is a direct [[ShoutOut homage]] to Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher" routine.
* {{Retraux}}: As seen in the pre-release trailers, the series is following its source material's footsteps of mimicking the 1930s-40s Creator/FleischerStudios era of animation through hand-drawn digital means. Creator Chad Moldenhauer dubbed the approach as "tradigital". Imperfections like dust particles and shallow scratches are occasional occurrences seen throughout the official trailer.
* VillainSong: As seen in the 2020 Annecy Film Festival preview, The Devil sings his song called "The Devil Song." He gleefully informs the audience about his vile reputation, getting "kicks playing tricks", and collecting souls.

* BigBallOfViolence: In the teaser trailer, Cuphead and Mugman engage in a cloudy battle behind the Elder Kettle's watch, in spite of his warnings. To Cuphead, this is just normal roughhousing and nothing mean-spirited.
