He ends up being a RedHerring, but they're still curious as to what he was doing in the desert, so they decide to ask. [[spoiler:Reluctantly, he reveals that he's been collecting and pressing wild desert flowers. He then explains he doesn't like to tell people about it because if they find out he has a soft side, they would walk all over him.]]

* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Lester insists he has pictures of the aliens and their ship, but they turn out to be ''paintings'', not photographs as implied. He again passes this along to the feds when the captured scientists insist the aliens were for real. The gang laughs knowing the feds will not be impressed by what they see.
** The best part is the scientists think this will get them off the hook, unaware of what Lester actually meant.

** Lester claims that the aliens who abducted him did many invasive experiments on him - including what is implied to have been a ''very'' horrific AnalProbing. There's no dialogue and we see him telling this story from outside.
** While Shaggy continues to gush about Crystal, Dottie, the waitress, remarks "tastes better than it looks, sweetheart." Which is subtle enough to make it seem like she's talking about the food she's serving.
** Shaggy tries to brag that he saw a huge {{jackalope}} to Crystal. She's not impressed since now he's exaggerating its apparent size. Shaggy meekly begins shrinking the size of it, with Crystal remaining unimpressed until he finally admits it's actual size. Well, it that wasn't a [[IncrediblyLamePun hard]] example of this trope...
