He [[spoiler:lost the ability to fly]], no longer has any real power over anyone, is used for comedy much more often and does not have very strong motives for what he does as compared to before. Thankfully he's only a secondary villain in this movie.

* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: A bit of an overarching problem; Jewel spends a majority of the movie ignoring or belittling Blu's opinions, making their family's decisions for him and accusing him of being selfish when he tries to stand up for himself. Supposedly, this is because Blu is a [[NervousWreck perpetual worrier]] who's afraid of new things, but if the roles were reversed, it'd come off as very sexist. Likewise, Eva's overbearing nature towards Rafael carries over from the first movie, but none of her softer, more comprising moments.
