The series is set in a fictional, futuristic Detroit owned by CorruptCorporateExecutive Abraham Kane (Creator/MarkHamill). Having banned personal freedoms including automobile transportation, Kane now faces one last obstacle: a group of hot-rod wielding rebels who call themselves The Burners. Led by Mike Chilton (Reid Scott), The Burners rise to stop Kane from conquering Detroit’s last oasis of freedom—an underground refuge dubbed Motorcity.

* GettingCrapPastTheRadar:
** Episode 6, "Fearless" overall presents a not-too-subtle parallel to performance-enhancement drug abuse.
*** Some of the Burners experience a trippy MushroomSamba dream sequence in "Mayhem Night" episode after the Terras launch [[GRatedDrug a plant pod that produces a hallucinogenic gas]]. This causes them to experience horrifying LSD-filled nightmares and spew out gibberish while their eyes change color.
** "We really 'terrored' that dome a new one."
** The Duke's little easily-missed comment while watching the Burners fight the Terror Dome, "Someone, pinch me quick, or else I'm gonna need new shorts."
** In episode 5, most of the paintings in the Duke's mansion are of him posing dramatically. However, in one of the shots while Julie is sneaking through the mansion, we get [[http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_md4rd3Adc91qggipfo1_500.png this]] picture with two Dukes doing [[ScrewYourself something]] together.
* GenericGraffiti: Totally averted, the backgrounds will often feature unique graffiti reminiscent of actual tags in Detroit. Most noticably averted in "Going Dutch."

* FanDisservice / FanService: The sunglasses commercial in "Off the Rack" at least proves that Kane has a high opinion on his looks... whether that's justified is up for debate.
* FirstEpisodeSpoiler: Julie is the daughter of the BigBad.

Despite being well received by critics and fans, the show was unfortunately ScrewedByTheNetwork,[note]]Disney is pretty well known for not really being into "gritty" series such as this. Having cancelled ''WesternAnimation/TronUprising'' not too long ago. Combined with likely how expensive the animation was, it probably wasn't really a surprise to most when news of it's cancellation came.[[/note]] and received the axe before the first season was even finished. Much like their previous series, ''WesternAnimation/MegasXLR'' though, the staff was able to give their last (and in this case only) season a GrandFinale.

* ThreeDEffectsTwoDCartoon: The Burners' cars and some of Kane's robots are animated with CGI, though it generally blends fairly well with the rest of the animation.

* [[ActionFilmQuietDramaScene Action Cartoon, Quiet Drama Scene]]: A couple of episodes have these, particularly when it comes to Mike's past or Julie and her father.

* ConspicuousCG: The Burners' cars and some of Kane's robots are animated with CGI, though it generally blends fairly well with the rest of the animation.

** Motor City may be an absolute dirge compared to the spotless but plain Detroit Deluxe, but its varied locales are breathtaking to look at.

** Chuck has actually had ''three episodes'' that focus on him: "Blond Thunder", "Fearless", and "Ride of the Fantasy Vans". If watched in the intended airing order, they form his character arc.

[[spoiler: As of "Vega", he is a full blown enemy]]. [[spoiler: But later he double crosses Kane after he was double crossed.]]

** The episode ''Attack of the Fantasy Vans'', being a spoof of MMORPG culture, has an European PowerMetal (think HammerFall) background score thrown in occasionally, and is indirectly a spoof of the style.

* OutOfOrder: For whatever reason Creator/DisneyXD chose to air the episodes of production order after the third episode. To make matters more confusing, iTunes accidentally put "Fearless" up for purchase several weeks before it was due to air, leading to some fans catching it early.

* CrapsaccharineWorld: Detroit Deluxe is a spotless, clean, utopian city with the latest technology used for everyday needs, but beneath that veneer is an oppressive regime that bans individual freedoms as simple as car ownership, or even the choice of clothing colours and styles. They have to start each activity by tapping a secret code. And their faces are hardly happy.
