* HowWeGotHere: The film begins with the derelict and heavily damaged ''O'Bannon'' drifting through space with most of its' crew already slaughtered. Marines from the USM ''Abraxis'' then board the ship and find four survivors out of a crew of 137. The four are brought aboard and each questioned one at a time by a specialist interrogation team as to what happened.

* LethallyStupid: Stross, and then some. From the moment the Marker shard is taken into his care, he proceeds to conduct his research of the shard in the most irresponsible manner possible, with any precautions he bothered to take being half-assed at best and easily forgotten at worst. [[spoiler: Eventually, he would go so far as to expose a corpse from the morgue to the shard's energies just to see what it would do. Unsurprisingly, said corpse would become PatientZero of the O'Bannon outbreak that would result in almost everyone onboard being slaughtered and infected.]]

Per TRS, this was renamed to Sex Starts Story Stops

* CoitusEnsues: Even if Cho and Stross are having an affair, her randomly jumping his bones in the middle of studying the shard still seems a bit forced.

* TheCameo: Isaac Clarke, the protagonist of the first game, is mentioned during a briefing by the crew of the ''O'Bannon''. [[spoiler:At the end of the movie, a stasis pod with his name on it is seen next to Stross']].

* KarmaHoudini: Cho gets it pretty rough. Blamed for everything that literally occurred. Justified since she took advantage of Stross and had an affair with him.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
Karma Houdini is for those who've unfairly avoided the consequences of misdeeds. And the plot plays her fate for horror, not as karma.

Not an example of the listed trope; no one says anything to the effect of "don't touch it you idiot" per the trope description

* Don'tTouchItYouIdiot!: The entire reason the plot took place. If the Marker was left alone, even if it was in pieces, then Stross wouldn't have killed his wife and son, and Kuttner wouldn't have been handing out lefts and rights like homework. Seriously people, if you see a glowy black and red space rock thingy, DO NOT TOUCH IT OR DROP IT ON A DEAD ORGANISM! You WILL Regret It!

* AssholeVictim: Nolan Stross is this. The poor soul was hellbent on his work, preventing him from having any sort of relationship with his wife and son. Not only that, he also had a partner on the side, who most likely manipulated Stross into having an affair, (cough-cough Cho). To be fair, he did cause a Necromorph Outbreak on the ''Obannon and'' unintentionally killed his wife and son, however, the Marker did play a major role in his behavior and growing madness so there's that.

The trope was renamed, but this wick doesn't seem to fit the new trope.

* LoweredMonsterDifficulty: The Necromorphs are a lot more fragile than they're supposed to be, even accounting for the protagonists' unusually lucky shots. This is subverted with the bigger ones; when the Brute shows up, all they can manage is to stun it briefly.
