* AmbiguouslyAbsentParent: In "Daniel's Strawberry Seeds", we see a baby bird and its mother, but not its father.

* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: There is a dinosaur song that has been used at least twice, even though the show itself has nothing to do with dinosaurs.

* BilingualAnimal: The animals can speak and sometimes put their sounds in the middle of their sentences, especially Katerina Kittycat.

* AmbiguousDisorder: O the Owl shows several signs of high functioning autism. For example, when Elaina wants him to play backwards in the Backwards Day episode, he becomes more and more upset, almost to the point of becoming panicky. Also, he is very insistent about a box that Teacher Harriet wants everyone to play pretend with being just a box, at least at first, and mostly just ignores the whole situation in favor of his reading, at least until he finally decides to play racecar. He also sometimes is particularly upset by loud noises that don't really bother others, another trait of high functioning autism.

* AbsenteeActor: The ''Tiger Family Trip'' special is truly that. None of Daniel's friends are seen or heard save very briefly for a couple at the very first episode of the arc. In fact, he doesn't even really mention them during the trip. The only characters are Daniel, Margaret, their parents and Grandpere Tiger.

Expect the characters to talk regularly about how they are feeling, the adults to praise them for doing so, [[EnforcedTrope and to encourage them to do so if they don't.]] There's even an episode called "Daniel Uses his Words / All Aboard!" which specifically deals with this; it also reveals that when Daniel ''doesn't'' use his words, he gets growly instead.

* BigStormEpisode: "A Storm in the Neighborhood / After the Storm" is all about this - a big storm comes through the neighborhood in which the characters live. The episode is all about storm preparation before the storm, how to stay safe and keep calm during the storm, and helping out with cleaning up afterwards.

* MixedRace: Elaina's mom Elaine is white, father Stan is black.

* AnAesop: Most, if not all, episodes have morals, usually delivered in song. Curiously, all of the adults (and on some occasions, all of the kids) seem to know these songs. It's almost as if they're teaching them to one another. This is directly [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in "Something Special for Dad" when Mr. [=McFeeley=] sings one of the songs that Daniel's mom sung and then flashes a wink at her.

** In "Margaret's Birthday", Daniel suggests a pin the tail on the panda game for his sister's party. ''Mister Rogers' Neighborhood'' actually had a panda character on the show called Purple Panda.
