* YouDontLookLikeYou: A minor one but during a small selection of cartoons[[note]]''Wise Quacks'', ''Naughty Neighbors'', and ''Porky's Last Stand''[[/note]] Clampett redesigned Daffy's colour scheme slightly with light coloured rings around his eyes. It didn't take.

* CardCarryingJerkass: Much like his counterpart WesternAnimation/BugsBunny, Daffy started off as a rather extreme hyperactive CloudCuckoolander with a cruel streak. While his obnoxiousness and cruelty were likewise toned down over time, unlike Bugs, he never completely lost his tendency towards being selfish and mean; in fact, today he's most famous for being Bugs's openly conniving (if generally ineffective) {{Foil}}.

Counting an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5RIvO74ZC5c obscure Tang endorsement from ''The Bugs Bunny Show'']] and Creator/CartoonNetwork's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lO7lR1Fzw48 Big Game from 2001]], he has also defeated Bugs twice as well, and even in shorts where he didn't defeat Bugs, he was able to get a an occasional hit on the rabbit.]] Also, perhaps due to being created by fans of the shorts and the character, some later features tend to [[ThrowTheDogABone throw Daffy a bone]] a few times as well, including the very end of ''Film/LooneyTunesBackInAction''.

* ComicallyCrossEyed: In his early cartoons Daffy did this a lot.

** He's not just liked second to Bugs, he gets nothing but cricket chirps and tomatoes in the face. Not to mention if there's another character around for comparison, they'll usually prove more popular as well (at least InUniverse), sometimes even a similar ButtMonkey [[StrawLoser just to add insult to injury]].
** Deconstructed in his appearance in ''Film/LooneyTunesBackInAction'', after Daffy's fanbase is deemed "limited to [[BasementDweller angry fat guys in basements]]", WB considers him dispensable and kick him out, only to find out the cartoons don't work nearly as well without his contribution. Daffy is underappreciated, but the audience ''[[TheChewToy loves]]'' [[TheChewToy to underappreciate him]].

** At least in the 1960s. Not only is he evil enough to try to destroy a well in an otherwise ''barren desert'', he also shows shades of being racist. During a disagreement with Speedy (who's Mexican) in "Go Go Amigo", he makes fun of his accent. Moreover, in "Moby Duck", he tells him he "can't even speak good English". In "Tease for Two", he even mocks the Mac and Tosh's UsefulNotes/BritishAccents. Unfortunately, these shorts ''were'' produced in an era notorious for racism.

** Astonishingly enough, Daffy is actually this to the rest of WesternAnimation/SpeedyGonzales's RoguesGallery. While still highly comical in tone, the situations Speedy was placed in were sometimes a lot more dire against Daffy, who stands as the only villain [[NotSoHarmlessVillain competent]] ([[TookALevelInJerkass and malicious]]) enough to hold ground against [[InvincibleHero the mouse]], even beating him a couple of times.
** What about ''whipping poor mice'' in "Assault and Peppered"?
** And keeping mice from drinking out of a well ForTheEvulz in "Well Worn Daffy"? (And unlike Sylvester, does a formidable job fending Speedy off).

* LoserProtagonist: While in his best known roles he played the StrawLoser antagonist to Bugs Bunny, he's every bit as much of a loser in many of his own shorts.

* WrongInsultOffence: In ''Muscle Tussle'', Daffy takes offense at his girlfriend calling him a "scrawny little nine pound weakling", because "I'm obviously a scrawny little ''ten'' pound weakling."

* YankTheDogsChain: In cases where he ''does win'' over Bugs or others as the VillainProtagonist, it's almost always a PyrrhicVictory at best and turned around him to be AllForNothing at worst. Like the time he raced the rabbit for "a million bucks" and cleared the finish line, only to realize he had mis-heard the phrase and it was a million little boxes. He ends up trying to do a slight politeness and give them to Bugs to seem better than he really is -- only for the game show host to reveal a dollar bill is inside every single box, meaning Daffy just sunk his own victory altogether.

* YoureInsane: Sorta. Speedy calls him "[[GratuitousSpanish loco]][[note]]UsefulNotes/{{Spanish|Language}} for crazy or insane[[/note]] duck" during the era in which he's at the height of his villainy.

* SmugSnake: While he's fairly smart, he's also prone to overconfidence and isn't as cunning or brilliant as he thinks he is, which has bitten him in the [[{{Pun}} tail]].

* TookALevelInJerkass: Under Chuck Jones's direction in the early fifties, making him self centered, neurotic and ''incredibly'' narcissistic (this is keeping in mind Daffy [[ScrewballSquirrel was never truly kind or thoughtful]] to begin with). Other directors eventually took his redesign and made him even worse. By the DePatie-Freleng era, he's often depicted as a [[KickTheDog puppy-punting]] villain with his LackOfEmpathy and aforementioned [[ItsAllAboutMe selfishness]] greatly dialed up. Later productions go in and out with this, though for the most part refer to Jones's selfish egotist Daffy.

* BerserkButton: Do not ''ever'' steal money from Daffy, EVER!, Especially money that he actually ''earned''. The Tasmanian Devil [[CurbStompBattle learn this the hard way.]]

* AmbiguousDisorder: He's [[MeaningfulName daffy]]. In ''The Looney Tunes Show'' Bugs describes him as "[[TheSociopath a sociopath]], a [[{{Narcissist}} narcissist]], and probably [[AxCrazy a psychopath]]." And as shown in the music video for "The Wizard," he has difficulty telling fantasy apart from reality.

* GRatedMentalIllness: Early on. In ''WesternAnimation/TheLooneyTunesShow'', this gets upgraded to AmbiguousDisorder status.

* Superior Duck - voiced by Frank Gorshin

* {{Greed}}: Becomes one of his defining traits later on. Daffy desires material wealth as much as he desires the [[GloryHound cheering and worshipping of others]]. Whenever he sees something shiny he goes completely, hysterically ballistic and doesn't pay any attention to whether the other person in the same vicinity has noticed it or cares about it, for him it is taken for granted that they 'll want to claim ''his'' gold.

''Daffy Duck'' is a ''WesternAnimation/LooneyTunes'' character created by Creator/TexAvery (although Creator/BobClampett contributed to Daffy's personality) in 1937. He was the first of the new breed of "screwball" characters that emerged in the late 1930s to supplant traditional everyman characters, such as MickeyMouse and WesternAnimation/PorkyPig. Was originally The Screwball [=/=]{{Cloudcuckoolander}}, later developed by Creator/ChuckJones (and Creator/FrizFreleng, even more so) into a {{Jerkass}} SmallNameBigEgo, most famously paired with WesternAnimation/BugsBunny as the OddCouple, but is also frequently set up against Porky Pig, who works as TheComicallySerious and DeadpanSnarker to Daffy's hijinks. In this incarnation, used either as a foil for Bugs or to parody action-adventure heroes. Meanwhile Robert [=McKimson=] [[CompositeCharacter combined the two interpretations]] and made Daffy into a LoveableRogue. Later also joined Sylvester on the hunt for WesternAnimation/SpeedyGonzales. Debut: ''[[WesternAnimation/PorkysDuckHunt Porky's Duck Hunt]]'' (1937), Tex Avery.

* KindnessBall: He's an [[ItsAllAboutMe egocentric]], [[KickTheDog dog-kicking]] villain during much of the 1960s... aside from "Skyscraper Caper" in which he is not up to anything mean-spirited. Moreover, he's genuinely nice to [[ArchEnemy Speedy]] instead of being openly hostile to him like usual.

* LimitedAnimation: The Daffy/Speedy shorts produced from 1965-1968 at Creator/DePatieFrelengEnterprises and WB-Seven Arts (especially the latter) suffer from this due to very low budgets. In particular, the three shorts subcontracted to Format Films ("Quacker Tracker", "The Spy Swatter", "Music Mice-tro") fit this to a T; because that company normally worked on made-for-TV cartoons, they're barely above a typical Hanna Barbera TV series of the time.

* UnsympatheticComedyProtagonist: Has his moments because he is very selfish, greedy, and manipulative.

* LimitedAnimation: The Daffy/Speedy shorts produced from 1965-1968 at Creator/DePatieFrelengEnterprises and Seven Arts (especially the latter) suffer from this due to very low budgets. In particular, the three shorts subcontracted to Format Films ("Quacker Tracker", "The Spy Swatter", "Music Mice-tro") fit this to a T; because that company normally worked on made-for-TV cartoons, they're barely above a typical Hanna Barbera TV series of the time.

Daffy ''would'' triumph if he was acting more altruistically, though, like in genuine self-defense or while helping others.
