''Blackfly'' is a 1991 animated short film by Christopher Hinton, produced by the Creator/NationalFilmBoardOfCanada.
It is inspired by the famous 1949 folk song by Wade Hemsworth, "The Black Fly Song". The song tells the story of one summer when Hemsworth went up to northern Ontario as part of a crew that was building a dam on the Little Abitibi River. Hemsworth, as the song tells, spent all summer plagued by the ubiquitous black flies of the Canadian north, finally vowing as he leaves that he'll never go to north Ontario again. The animated short features Hemsworth singing his own song as the animation gives a comic portrait of the black flies that plagued his existence.
