* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: Max becomes very resentful towards Goofy after losing to him on the first day of the X-Play games, unwilling to accept that he got upstaged by his own father, who, in Max's eyes, happens to be the "most AthleticallyChallenged man in the universe". This shows how Max, blinded by his fixation on Goofy's more unflattering traits, is either unable to see or conveniently forgets the fact that Goofy ''is'' a talented and skilled athlete in his own right, as shown by his impressive dance moves and stylish on-the-spot skateboarding maneuvers (the latter of which caught the Gammas' attention and led to Goofy joining the competition to begin with).

* TookALevelInJerkass: Max. In the first film, he was just a TroubledTeen dealing with peer bullying and school ostracization, causing him to become moody and sour, and his most morally questionable act was to lie to his father out of desperation. Here, Max's worst actions are rooted on petty selfishness and spite. First, he dupes Goofy into joining the Gammas in hopes of not only sabotaging his rival team's chances but to also get a few laughs at his own father's expense as Goofy is humiliated on live TV. When his plan backfires and Goofy ends up becoming a school celebrity, Max turns into TheResenter and starts detesting Goofy for the crime of unintentionally stealing his thunder. While still relatable to an extent due to Goofy's own unhealthy clinginess being a factor in Max's annoyance, and not beyond redemption thanks to his CharacterDevelopment later on, Max's behavior during the film's midpoint makes him crueler, more egocentric, and less sympathetic than his previous portrayal.
