Technology has become a battleground. The armory of humanity has traded an arsenal of guns and drones for advanced one-man combat equipment known as XAG (eXoskeletal Augmentation Gear) armor. In the midst of this unstable world, a team of young, idealistic special needs students decides to join the fray with their own custom XAG armor in hopes of using their skills and superior technology to calm the advancing storm.

Five years later, things have only gotten worse and there’s so much lost time to make up for.

* AMillionIsAStatistic: Lamar is very much against this notion back in the early days, but becomes more pragmatic about that as he’s faced with the unfortunate reality of his situation. He still maintains a disdain for this mindset despite being unable to defy it, however.
* AnachronicOrder: The comic opens with the main character waking up from [[spoiler: a five-year coma]] with plenty of past events waiting to be fleshed out.
* ArtEvolution: Especially compared to the somewhat crude art style of its predecessor, Ruby Nation, the art has made major improvements in anatomical structure and coloring.
* TheAtoner: Lamar takes up this role in chapter five.
* BatmanGambit: [[spoiler: Jens]] knows just how to manipulate K.A. into doing his dirty work, simply by understanding her idealistic tendencies and how to direct them.
* BrainUploading: As it turns out, [[spoiler: Mela’s original body hasn’t been around for quite some time now.]]
* BreakTheCutie: A lot of the characters were much more idealistic in the flashbacks.
* BodyHorror: The serum meant to save K.A.’s life has some…unsettling effects on her appearance.
* TheCameo: [[RecurringCharacter Jens]] aside, the other cast of Ruby Nation gets a brief appearance.
* CatapultNightmare: Lamarr wakes with a start from what seems to be flashback dreams of K.A. at the beginning of chapter five.
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler: Jens, as K.A. unfortunately discovers.]]
* CloudCuckoolander: Mela is delightfully odd.

* CuteKitten: The kids have a lot of cats in their workshop. Mr. Percival isn't terribly fond of them, but the kids enjoy having them around.
* DeadpanSnarker: K.A.’s father has a rather acerbic tongue on him.
* TheDogBitesBack: Lamar's forces don’t take kindly to his suicidal tactics and verbal abuse, breaking his armor and leaving him for dead.
* DontYouDarePityMe: Lamarr hates being used as an InspirationallyDisadvantaged poster child. He also refuses to treat others with that kind of pity.
* GiantMecha: Shaped like beetles, no less.
* GlowingMechanicalEyes: The XAG suits tend to have these.
* HandicappedBadass: All of the members of the Wyrecats have some sort of mental or physical disability. They also possessed—-and in fact developed--some seriously tough PoweredArmor and did their level best to stand up to a global arms race.
* HeroDoesPublicService: Despite their idealistic pursuits turning out less-than-stellar, the Wyrecats try to do some good in the world by varying methods.
* HeroicSacrifice: Averted. Lamar makes a suicidal attempt to take out the underwater base and save the others. Tadeo will have none of that.
* HobbesWasRight: [[spoiler: Jens]] is of the mind that all of humanity must be carefully manipulated into fighting fake wars to be kept in order.
* InterruptedSuicide: K.A. saves Erica from jumping off a bridge. The two later become friends.
* KidHero: The Wyrecats is a team of high-schoolers. [[spoiler: Or, at least, they were. The comic is quickly moving toward deconstructing this trope right from the get-go]].
* KnightInSourArmor: Lamar was by far the most pessimistic of the kids even before things [[GoneHorriblyWrong fell apart]].
* MundaneUtility: Many of the features of the XAG armor are meant to be used as assistive technology. For example, Lamar has his speechbot, which allows the otherwise mute boy to communicate.
* {{Nanomachines}}: One of the prevalent technologies of the setting. It’s also a nod to the fact this this is the same universe Ruby Nation takes place in.
* NervesOfSteel: Tabbi has no problem letting Lamar have it when he mistakes her for a child. All while he’s holding her by the back of her shirt after effortlessly ripping her out of her suit like it was a sardine can.
* NewhartPhoneCall: K.A. walks in on her dad having a rather tense phone conversation with the government about the kid’s armor and weapons. We only see his side of it, but the implications are still clear.
* NoodleImplements: The things Mela can imagine being used as a deadly weapon must be [[http://wyrecats.thecomicseries.com/comics/22 seen to be believed]].
* OurSoulsAreDifferent: K.A. and Mela have a discussion about what exactly a soul entails.
* PainfulTransformation: K.A. gets a biological upgrade to make her more efficient. It’s…[[http://wyrecats.thecomicseries.com/comics/44 not pleasant.]]
* PoweredArmor: XAG armor is precisely this.
* ProperlyParanoid: Bryce behaves in an extremely paranoid manner due to his brain tumor. Given the depth of the conspiracies he’s involved in, however, his fears may not be entirely unfounded.
* {{Realpolitik}}: What Jens has become in his HeelFaceTurn with his philosophy that humanity must be kept in control by a cycle of constant engineered wars.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. K.A. sets out with this in mind, but settles down en route and instead has a somewhat different breakdown.
* SadClown: Mela is generally the most outwardly cheerful member of the group, but her upbeat outlook seems to mask a lot of internal pain.
* SanitySlippage: During his lucid moments, he acts as MissionControl, but Bryce’s brain tumor is having some severe effects on his mental facilities that cause him to behave irrationally.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Dealing with Mela turns out to be a little harder than anticipated and this mook decides there’s only [[http://wyrecats.thecomicseries.com/comics/35 one appropriate response]].
* ShipperOnDeck: Bryce gets fed up pretty quickly with K.A. and Lamar's UST.
* SixthRanger: Tadeo fills this role for the rest of the team, being that he wasn’t one of the original Wyrecats.
* TriggerHappy: Tabbi is a bit quick to shoot first and ask questions later.
* ShoutOut: K.A. and Erica are both fans of ''Series/DoctorWho''. The comic also has a few references to some indie webcomics.
