''Scarlet'' follows the adventures of the girl Scarlet Carolus who wants to turn the legendary Machine of Eternal Summer back on and thus save her [[Literature/DyingEarth dying world]] Lavarel from freezing. Novil mentioned that ''TabletopGame/{{Numenera}}'', a science fantasy role-playing game set in the far distant future of Earth where technological artifacts have effects that are indistinguishable from magic, was one of the main inspirations for the comic. Apart from humans, the comic features [[SlidingScaleOfAnthropomorphism anthropomorphic]] foxes and wolves. One of them is the fox Tibor, the second main character of the comic.

Added DiffLines:

* FarmBoy: Scarlet is the daughter of a family of farmers. Apart from the basic premise, she doesn't adhere to the usual standards for such a character, though. She's living with her actual parents and would never [[RefusalOfTheCall refuse the call]].

Added DiffLines:

* LastDayOfNormalcy: At the beginning of the comic, Scarlet is shown helping her parents with the [[https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/comic/the-machine-of-eternal-summer-003/ harvest]]. Things start to go south when she and her father get [[https://www.sandraandwoo.com/scarlet/comic/the-machine-of-eternal-summer-006/ robbed]] on their way home after a trip to the nearest city to sell the produce.
