A bouncy fun reboot of the original comics from 2013,[[http://smokefurandstone.thecomicseries.com/comics/1/ Smoke Fur And Stone]] explores the lives and loves of magical misfits in a fantasy world.

This was originally a series of grim fantasy short comics and spin-offs set in the same fictional universe. In 2022, it was rebooted into a lighterandsofter comedy series focusing on the characters from the original series. The darker themes and stories are explored in its companion series Webcomic/IronNailAfternoon.

[[http://smokefurandstone.thecomicseries.com/comics/1/ Smoke Fur And Stone]] stretches from exotic flying cities to the demon-haunted depths of magical oceans. This series of short comics and spin-offs (which includes Smoke Fur And Stone, Aspects and Backwater Siren) share a fictional universe. One of the SFS spin-offs was awarded a Shortbox grant in 2020. The creator has since removed the bulk of comics from the website and is focusing on a soft reboot called ''Iron Nail Afternoon''.

* AgeGapRomance: Caliban and Skoll. Caliban is in his early-mid 20s and Skoll is about 42. What makes it interesting is that Caliban is the one actively pursuing the romance despite Skoll's misgivings.
* BackStory: Nearly every character has one and because it's a CrapsackWorld, they're normally tragic. Smiling Chuck lost his first lover in the war and it obviously scarred him deeply. Caliban grew up in the dreaded Deadfall mines.

* BerserkButton: With Chuck? Just about everything. His response to nearly every situation is violence. He probably wasn't hugged enough as a child. With Caliban? Don't insult his best friend/love interest Skoll.
* BigBeautifulWoman: Gray is definitely one of these.
* BodyHorror: The Deadfall miners are horribly deformed thanks to the magical energy in the mines. Some of their faces are completely eaten away.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: Chuck is deeply shaken (to the point that he stutters) when he encounters a siren bearing a deep resemblance to his long-dead lover.
* CastFullOfGay: The comics focus on the lives and loves of queer supernatural beings. The main protagonists consist of Smiling Chuck and Whithers (a same-sex couple), Caliban (bisexual or possibly just Skoll-sexual) and Skoll/Skollina (who changes gender by shedding their skin.)
* ComicalNapDrool: [[https://www.deviantart.com/smokefurandstone/art/Sleeping-Angel-863225580 Skoll sleeping on Caliban's shoulder.]] It would be a cute scene apart from Skoll's loud snoring and visible drool. Of course, a smitten Caliban still thinks Skoll looks like a "sleeping angel."

* DarkIsNotEvil: The Coven Island is largely occupied by Skins, Smokes and creatures that go bump in the night but at the end of the day, they're just people trying to survive.

* HealingFactor: After tangling with a [[spoiler:Lovecraftian horror]], a bloody, unconscious Chuck washes up on an abandoned island. A few hours later and he's good as new.
* HeroesWantRedHeads: Chuck's first boyfriend was a redhead and when various sirens appear to Chuck, they look - surprise, surprise - like [[TheTwink lithe]], redheaded males. Whithers is also a redhead. Word of God even states that this creative choice is a nod to Wolverine's obsession with redheads since that character is one of the prototype [[BeastMan beastmen]] in comics.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: A rare male example with Chuck and Whithers. Chuck is about 7 ft tall and Whither's [[https://www.deviantart.com/lj-phillips/art/Under-My-Skin-Punchline-814288668/ barely reaches his shoulder.]] How they have sex is anyone's guess.
* InMyLanguageThatSoundsLike: Skins have their own language, one that humans find challenging to speak. This is because the human throat can't get the sub-vocalizations right. "Smiling Chuck" is a human bastardization of Chuck's pack rank (which most humans find unpronounceable.)
* IslandBase: The entire comic is set on a series of islands, many of which are home to fortified bases.
* ManipulativeBastard: Whithers. Like all sirens in the series, he can adopt different forms. And he's quick to exploit this to get what he wants. People find it hard to say no to someone who looks like their first love.
* MoralityPet: Sed and Rachel have several.
* OddFriendship: Whithers is a PrettyBoy siren who can be coldly manipulative when it comes to getting what he wants and Chuck is a [[RatedMForManly hulking]] werewolf who views life as a barfight.

* RatedMForManly: Chuck sports a [[CarpetofVirility Carpet of Virility]],a powerful physique and a bad attitude.
