* ConeOfShame: Lola expresses her hatred for the Elizabethan collar her owners put on her to keep her from scratching a neck injury. She claims she wouldn't have scratched so much if she'd known this would be the result, and Mr. Wrinkles retorts that he ''told'' her this would happen. Then he realizes that when he told Lola the humans would put a cone on her head if she kept scratching, she thought he meant an ice cream cone.

Added DiffLines:

* AfraidOfBlood: Lola and Mr. Wrinkles are both grossed out by the sight of blood when Brutus smashes a tick he knocked off Lola's hindquarters. (Mr. Wrinkles in particular looks like he's struggling to keep himself from throwing up.) [[ShellShockedVeteran Brutus]] is completely unfazed and calls both of them "soft."

* GiveAManAFish: Namedropped in the "Randall the bone thief" story arc. Lola and Mr. Wrinkles express doubt whether Brutus can get Hugo to stand up to Randall. The cat suggests Brutus could take care of the problem himself. In answer, Brutus uses the expression...and absolutely confuses Lola.

* LovableCoward: Hugo, the St. Bernard next door, has an endearing nature. He is also scared of owls, seeing them as horrific monsters, and runs away yelping when [[BigBrotherInstinct Brutus]] arrives while he's talking to Pixie. Randall even manages to take his bones day after day...at least before Brutus steps in.

* NotSoDire: One comic starts with Hugo standing somewhere high up, calling Brutus for help...and it turns out that the first panel showed things through Hugo's eyes and the rock isn't as high off the ground as he thinks.

* NotSoDire: One comic starts with Hugo standing somewhere high up, calling Brutus for help...and it turns out that the first panel showed things through Hugo's eyes and the rock isn't as high off the ground as he thinks. This may be FridgeBrilliance, as we find out later that Hugo is missing an eye, which messes with depth (and height) perception...
