Like Joel's ex girlfriend from France that suddenly exists. Or the purple haired crossdresser. Or the guy with multiple personality disorder. Or Nicole's dad. Or the girl who wants to be a human. These people just ''show up.''
** To be fair, they weren't introduced totally out of nowhere like the trope suggests: Joel's ex Chloe was introduced in a Concession Chronicles blog entry, Zoe, Clarissa, and Clive had this trope lampshaded in their introduction, and... it's really only natural to assume that characters have parents, whether get an introduction dedicated to them or not.
