* Defied. Dominant and Submissive magics work together like cogwheels, and certain rare individual can do [[RedMage both]]. However, [[PsychicPowers psionics]] and BloodMagic, which the BigBad and TheDragon specialize in, are outright considered impossible, as opposed to the soul-based Dom/Sub magic types.

* SoulPower: Magic requires one to be able one to utilize their soul to affect reality. The reason for the S&M FetishFuelFuture is because everyone's soul is either Dominant or Submissive in some way, dictating wether they're a sadist or a masochist, and the easiest way to acheive communion with it is to embrace a sexual fetish to relax the mind, then perform a ritual to impress upon the soul what they want to happen. These rituals often take the form of, well, S&M play.

* PrehensileHair: The Judiciatrix's metal ponytail. It's implied that it's not her actual hair based on one we see later whose hair is much shorter out of uniform.

* SeriousBusiness: The Association is apparently just a BDSM society, but it employs masked Judiciatrices, enforcers described as "very lethal to trouble-makers" with no sense of hyperbole -- and with super powers. Justified since the enforcers aren't the only ones with powers and there are people who have powers based on whether they are masochists or sadists (or both). In other words: MASOCHISTS AND SADISTS WITH SUPERPOWERS. Without regulation, that's a recipe for super-villainy. Even with regulation, there are certain individuals who end up going that way anyways.

In the comic's first major arc (concluded), Sixx locked horns with her rival, Mistress Butterfly, over Trina, a former domme whom Butterfly had collared. Butterfly used Sixx's anger to bait her into a wager -- she would stake Trina; Sixx would stake her own freedom and everything she owned. Sixx was victorious, but she soon learned that Butterfly's plans involved far more than just the fate of one woman...

ScheduleSlip has been far better than with many other webcomics, and most strips try to both advance the story and provide at least one laugh.
