While the states initially spent most of their time discussing their responses to the Covid-19 pandemic, they have since expanded to other hot topics as well.
The show initially started with just the roundtable meetings, but it has also expanded to The Statehouse, a reality show parody where HilarityEnsues as the states try to coexist in one big house. Ben hopes to feature every state and territory in his videos, though he does have a core six who show up the most often:
* DC: TheStraightMan. The closest thing the states have to a leader, he tries (and inevitably fails) to maintain order and keep Florida in line. It should be noted that DC represents the federal government and not the city of Washington, DC, who has since become his own character (albeit sporadically-recurring).
* Florida: He lives for chaos and undermining DC at every turn, yet even DC can't deny Florida's usefulness since he provides incite on every other state (because their residents keep moving there). Since Ben himself is from Florida, this state gets the most focus as Florida gives his commentary on what the other states are up to.
* Texas: A gun-totin', Bible-lovin' Republican cowboy who despises California and Oklahoma and loves dodging DC's questions.
* California: A self-righteous hipster kid who often clashes with the Southern states and criticizes DC's more heavy-handed tactics.
* New York: Perpetually cold and scowling, he's brusque with everyone but especially hates Massachusetts.
* Louisiana: "Louie" is a consummate partier who's never without a drink and speaks in a thick Cajun accent. He's best buds with Florida and the two often get into mischief together.
!!Welcome to the Tropes:
* ActingForTwo: Ben portrays most of the states and organizations, though sometimes other Youtubers and comedians will pop in as guest stars, such as Drew Lynch as the CDC.
* AmericanAccents: Exaggerated to the nth degree.
* TheAlcoholic: Louie and Wisconsin always have a drink in hand.
* AuthorAppeal: Ben is a huge football fan, and several states are portrayed through that lens.
* AuthorsSavingThrow: Ben is open to viewer feedback on how to portray the states, especially the ones he personally knows little about. For instance, Utah went from "Elder Utah," an uptight Mormon missionary, to being a lot more laid back while still religious. He eventually stops wearing his missionary uniform in favor of a t-shirt showing off the state's rock formations.
* AuthorTract: Ben is not above inserting his own political commentary into the dialog.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: For most of 2020, DC wears a blue suit with a red tie. While one could easily assume Ben was going for a patriotic color scheme, the election-themed videos reveal that the red tie represented Republican UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump. When Democrat Joe Biden won the election, DC switched out the red tie for a blue one.
* CreatorSharedBackground: As mentioned above, Ben is from Florida, hence why that state is the "main" character. Also, whenever the US Military appears, Ben will wear his actual uniform since he's in the National Guard.
* DeepSouth: Often invoked with the Southern states, except Florida and Louie.
* TheDividual: North and South Dakota. Florida notes that the only way to call one of them to The Table is to call them both and kick out the one that's not needed.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Texas harboring envy towards Alaska for being bigger.
* FloridaMan / OnlyInFlorida: Invoked big time.
* FunWithAcronyms: The US's foreign policy is represented by "International DC," a vapid socialite played by Elena Rose. Her initials? "IDC."
* TheHedonist: Louie, Florida, and Nevada.
* GratuitousFrench: Louie, naturally. Not only does he constantly drop Cajun slang, he's also able to pronounce the name of football player K'lavon Chaisson without missing a beat.
* GratuitousSpanish: New Mexico. Florida sometimes dips into this as well, reminding everyone that he was a Spanish colony for 200 years.
* LiteralSplitPersonality: DC (the government), Washington, DC (the city), and International DC (foreign policy) are all separate characters.
* MinnesotaNice: Subverted. Minnesota starts this way but he doesn't hesitate to get woke, particularly in response to the George Floyd killing.
* NiceHat: Wisconsin's cheese hat, later joined by Maine's lobster hat...thing and Nevada's showgirl headpiece.
* TheRival: New York and Minnesota, Texas and Oklahoma, Ohio and Michigan.
* SerendipityWritesThePlot: Ben came up with the show in the spring of 2020 after all of his stand-up gigs were cancelled due to Covid-19.
* SirSwearsALot: West Virginia, though it's always bleeped with a "technical glitch."
* Sleepyhead: Georgia.
* SoapboxSadie: California is a RareMaleVersion.
* SplitPersonality: Sometimes comes up when a state has one city that's culturally distinct from the rest of it, such as Texas turning into the left-wing Austin who actually impresses California.
* TheStoner: Colorado. Later, Oregon.
