** The eight surviving crew members of the Essex were basically given a slap on the wrist for killing and eating the seven others in their lifeboats, as it was understood that it was that or die, and all of them would return to their whaling careers without so much as a fine. The captain however, did suffer an icy reception from the mother of one of the cabin boys since he'd promised to protect him and had ended up eating him.

''Ruining'' History is a web series hosted by Website/BuzzFeed, created for the purpose of telling tales kept out of textbooks. Produced by Shane Madej (perhaps best known for co-hosting ''WebVideo/BuzzfeedUnsolved''), it stars himself, his ''Unsolved'' co-host Ryan Bergara, and fellow [=BuzzFeed=] producer Sara Rubin. Joining them is a shifting roster of [=BuzzFeed=] employees, who listen in awe (and horror) as Shane tells them some of history's more... distasteful tidbits.

Released in August of 2017, Ruining History so far has had only one season. Shane has hinted at a second season on his twitter, but nothing has been confirmed yet, and others implied it was cancelled by Buzzfeed who thought the animations were too expensive. Shane has created a Muppets-esque successor called [[WebVideo/{{PuppetHistory}} Puppet History]], over on Website/{{Watcher}}.

* DirtyOldMan: The first episode in the series is about this trope.not only the perversions of the historic Hellfire Club, but also posits the theory that Benjamin Franklin, already a known DirtyOldMan, might have been a member.

* ImAHumanitarian: Discussed in the Essex episode- wracked with hunger, the sailors had no choice but to eat their fellow crew members. One boat was found with two men upon it, surrounded by the bones of their former crew members, which they took with them upon being rescued. Yikes.
