* AssShove: Lewis's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3DMwGRFbYg infamous livestreamed rant]] on gathering oil, and what he plans to do with it, firstly because he got killed by a skeleton, and secondly because Simon finds oil simply lying on the ground.
-->'''Lewis:''' "Bring me back a few handfuls of oil, I'll put it up my arse, and we'll go to fucking space. I don't fucking know!"

[[folder:Team J.A.F.F.A]]
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs:
** [[spoiler:The secondary moonbase]] gets hit by a meteor and ends up needing repairs.
** In Episode 96, the group returns to [[spoiler:the Jaffa Factory]] to find it occupied by hostile mobs, badly decaying, overgrown and generally looking worse for wear.
* AwesomeButImpractical:
** Zigzagged with the laser turret near Baked Bean Fort. It does take out enemies rather well (its designed purpose), but it ends up firing upon [[spoiler:and killing]] Simon a couple of times as he's not been whitelisted. It's also rather noisy.
** The guys solution to [[spoiler:the moon getting dark]]? Put lava down, of course! This nearly gets Lewis killed at least once.
** Their building material for their [[spoiler:second and soon to be primary moonbase]] is ''ham blocks''. This is also a zigzagged trope, as they have an easy way to farm it, but it's not very durable in terms of damage.
* BadassInDistress / DistressedDude:
** At various points across the show, [[spoiler:each member of the trio ends up stuck on the moon, suffocating to death at least once]].
** [[spoiler:Sips]] is still stuck on Mars. [[spoiler:He gets "rescued" in Episode 94]].
* BaitAndSwitch: In exchange for their aid, Sjin agrees to give Team Jaffa the real deed to the Jaffa Factory. After Simon gives him back the fake deed, he pretends to switch things in his inventory and gives Simon back the deed he just gave Sjin and while Simon was checking the deed left via a link book while Team Jaffa was distracted. Unfortunately Sjin doesn't know how to get out of their base (which is where the link book leads) and [[RewardedAsATraitorDeserves is immediately killed]] when Simon realizes he has the fake deed and follows Sjin.
-->- Sjin:''"There ya go. That's the dead. Igottagobye."''
-->- Simon:''"It's the '''real''' deed...It just says deed, [[CaptainObvious and now you've gone.]] You bastard!"''
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: When preparing to teleport to a new world (in their bid to strip-mine the multiverse for raw materials), Simon makes the request for "somewhere dangerous". On arrival, they end up on a tiny bit of stone, surrounded by some type of flammable liquid as the world begins to fall apart around them. Weirdly, [[NightmareFetishist Duncan likes it.]]
* BoringButPractical / SimpleYetAwesome:
** Lewis and Duncan's eventual plan for the moon is to use a link book (for jumping dimensions) between their firebase and the Overworld. [[spoiler:It works, and they choose not to use rockets for further travel between the two locations, later using it for mars successfully]].
** Simon thinks of a way to farm pigs for the food, and also for building [[spoiler:a second moon base]]. It involves putting a spawner down with grass, surrounding it with water and electric fences, guaranteeing they won't escape. [[spoiler:The vacuum also means they won't get far before they suffocate]].
* TheChewToy: In his first episode alone, Sjin gets electrocuted, humiliated, given a rubbish deal in exchange for his help and even punched into the smeltery, which kills him.
* DressingAsTheEnemy: Happens a few times after the Shapeshifter mod is installed. It predictably doesn't end well.
* EpicFail:
** The guys have three attempts to land a rocket on the moon. [[spoiler:Only the last one lands safely, and even then it's not a complete success because Lewis suffocates, having forgotten his oxygen gear]].
** [[spoiler:Sjin's effort to backstab Team J.A.F.F.A. was so bad that it results in him essentially being thrown out.]]
** The Shapeshifter mod results in Duncan and Simon attacking one another a couple of times.
** The end of episode 105 has to be seen to be believed. The group prepares to launch fireworks to celebrate their interactive "moonsperience." At the end, the fireworks are launched without issue, and Simon climbs into their very first rocket as a ride. Said rocket is indoors. It doesn't have fuel, so everyone thinks it will be safe. [[spoiler:It initiates the launching sequence with 7% fuel left, crashes into the ceiling and explodes on the floor, blowing up half the factory, crashing the game, and killing everyone]].
* FreudianSlip: Simon refers to Baked Bean Fort, their homebase, as Baked Bean Fart a few times, although it might not be 100% accidental.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Lewis seems to go into it a lot as the OnlySaneMan.
* HonestJohnsDealership: [[spoiler: Hat Films gives Simon a ton of gear and a new deed to Craggy Island after the Jaffa Factory explodes, but they hint afterwards that they scammed him with some dodgy terms and conditions, and plan to scam Simon and Lewis too. Unfortunately for them, [[IsThisThingStillOn Simon can still hear them.]] ]]
* IronicEcho: Simon tells of his idea of the "Yogscast guarantee", with no cheating. It's humorous to everyone present, because the Yogscast resorts to cheating a lot. Only about ten minutes later, Sjin (visiting the base for the first time) falls into the smeltery, dies, and loses his items. He can't go back in without simply dying all over again, and so resorts to creative mode. Simon lampshades the absurdity of the moment. [[HilarityEnsues Naturally, everyone is laughing their rear off by now]].
* TheLancer: Simon ends up being this, contrasting to Lewis' personality and work ethic.
* TheLeader: Lewis takes this role for the show.
* MeaningfulRename: As the show goes along, it gets renamed "Marsquest", then "[[spoiler:Jaffaquest]]".
* MoodWhiplash:
** After Duncan assembles the first rocket, awesome music plays. Then he realises that holding it in his hand means that his avatar is carrying it over his head and starts laughing.
** The group decide to explore a dimension known as Sludgepit 2. At first it appears lovely... then people start catching on fire because they walk into some weird flowers. ''Meteors then start raining down'', causing everyone to flee in terror.
** From the same episode as Sludgepit 2, the surprise appearance of the mutant skeleton, which interrupted their efforts at work and killed Simon repeatedly.
** After the triumphant launch of the first rocket, [[spoiler:Simon crashes it and explodes]]. The same thing happens the next couple of times.
** After the triumphant [[spoiler:and this time successful]] maiden voyage of the Mars rockets, Duncan uses the shapeshifting mod to troll Simon and nearly gets killed.
* NoOSHACompliance:
** Many examples throughout the show. Episode 67 is even called "Health and Safety Nightmare", as Lewis falls into a pool of lava the guys had been using for illumination and geothermal power, nearly burning to death.
** Falling into the smelter happened frequently as well. Sjin dies from this at least once.
** Simon's idea to keep the base safe after the turret is removed is to put electric fences directly by the doors. The plan does almost more harm to the crew than it does to the mobs, and supercharges a load of Creepers. Again, Sjin also gets killed by this repeatedly.
** As part of the museum built into the Jaffa factory dedicated to chronicling their moon quest, a rocket is put on display on a launch pad. Predictably, it is fully functional and had some fuel in it, so when Simon goes to take a ride in it [[spoiler:he accidentally launches the rocket inside the factory and blows it up, killing the whole team and destroying everything.]]
* PowerTrio: Once again, Lewis, Simon and Duncan form one. This goes out the window once [[spoiler:Sjin]] joins, though he leaves shortly after their mission is completed. Whether or not he'll return remains to be seen.
* SixthRanger: In Episode 88, [[spoiler:Sjin]] joins up in order to get to Mars, seemingly leaving shortly afterwards.
* TheSmartGuy: Duncan takes this role, being the best planner out of everyone.
* StealthSequel: To [[spoiler:Jaffa Factory; they end up returning to the now-derelict factory in the final 'season']].
* SuddenlyShouting: Lewis in [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=bhL17zeSZbw#t=921 "King Of the Squids"]] after Simon cannot gather up any oil properly. He may or may not have had a bit to drink or not much sleep, or both.
* ThrowTheDogABone:
** The guys end up being the first group to [[spoiler:end up on the moon]].
** After being electrocuted, burning to death in the forge and being generally abused, Sjin [[spoiler:is allowed to join as their SixthRanger in order to get to Mars, even getting to launch the second rocket there]].
** After being blackmailed for their help, Team JAFFA [[spoiler:rediscover the location of the factory and begin trekking there to repair it]].
* TokenEvilTeammate: [[spoiler:Sjin]] joins the crew in Episode 88, but it's clearly for his own reasons (wanting to save [[spoiler:Sips]]) and not for the others. He blackmails his way onto the team as well, threatening to sell the Jaffa Factory to someone else, and eventually tries backstabbing them- this fails horribly.
%%* TookALevelInBadass: Compare Simon's terrible builds in ''Tekkit'' to his airship in this series, and his building's come along rather well.

[[folder:[=SipsCo=] Space Programme / Sjintech Space Rescue]]
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: [[spoiler:_Zips blows up Slime Island with TNT, destroying all the supplies and knocking Sjin into the water, far away.]]
* AwesomeButImpractical: Some of Sjin's custom tools are made out of materials which aren't actually as useful as you'd think. This has agitated commentators no end to the point of InUniverse acknowledgement, and Sjin is getting better at it in his defence.
* BigBad: [[spoiler:_Zips]] appears to fulfil this role.
* TheChewToy: Sips and Sjin both appear to be treated like this by the others. Kim wants to take out the latter for his betrayal of her, Team J.A.F.F.A. steals from the latter at least once, and [[spoiler:_Zips kidnaps the former and blows up their base]]. When Sjin bumps into Team J.A.F.F.A at their base, they compare his space programme to North Korea.
* CloudCuckoolander: While neither Sips nor Sjin are the most rational of people, [[spoiler:_Zips]] takes the cake.
* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: A baby zombie kills Sips by hitting the door once- when the door is still intact and when Sips is a block or so away. He understandably gets frustrated.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Sjin has Kim angrily remind him of the whole Sipsco incident. He then makes a sword to use exclusively for her, calling it "[[ShoutOut the Kimslayer]]".
* DistressedDude: [[spoiler:Sips]] gets kidnapped towards the end of the first series and is stuck on Mars. Doubles as PutOnABus since he's taking a short break from recording Minecraft.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: In spite of the fact that Sjin actually has a decent base and plan going for him (doubly so when you consider the fact that he's working alone) and is working rather hard, Team J.A.F.F.A compare his space programme to North Korea and Team Duncan constantly abuse him.
* EpicFail: The first episode is full to the brim with moments. What takes the cake is the fact that neither of them can find a decent shelter, at which point mobs begin rushing them and Sjin dies. After that, Sips tries tunnelling his way out and runs into a lake which floods his makeshift shelter. Then, after that, a baby zombie ''glitches an attack through the door'', killing him instantly.
* SeinfeldianConversation: Ninety per cent of what the guys say is completely random, as in their past shows. This happens to a much weirder extent when [[spoiler:Sjin and _Zips]] are talking, as the latter is really scatterbrained.
* ShoutOut: A few examples.
** Sjin makes a custom sword to use on Kim, calling it "[[Literature/ASongOfIceAndFire Kim slayer]]".
** Sjin also names two of his custom tools [[ComicBook/TheMightyThor Thor (a hammer) and Loki (a scythe)]]. Really, the hammer should have been called "Mjolnir", but the effort is clear.

[[folder:Duncan and Kim]]
* AllYourBaseAreBelongToUs: [[spoiler:The old castle is stumbled upon eventually, and it's really in a state]].
* ArchEnemy: Kim considers Sjin this to her after his betrayal.
* BerserkButton: Kim absolutely ''flips'' when she sees that Sjin is on the server, angrily reminding him about his betrayal.
* DitzyGenius: Again, Duncan. He builds complex machinery with little trouble, but has difficulty remembering why he does so.
* ItAmusedMe: The reason that the two decide to spend the better half of an episode putting statues of people everywhere in Sjin's compound.
* SanityBall: Kim and Duncan alternate between being the OnlySaneMan and the Cloudcuckoolander, sometimes within the same scene.
* TookALevelInBadass: Compare Kim starting in Minecraft to how she does now. Her performance is considerably better, even being the first player on the server to [[spoiler:properly land on the moon, without suffocating to death]].
* XDaysSince: Due to Duncan's absentmindedness, Kim installs a "Days Without Duncan setting fire to himself" inside the sex dungeon.
