* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Johnny retells the story of when he was playing ''Super Mario Land'' on the subway train, finished it before the destination, and self-agreed to record it for a commentary using a Super GameBoy. Ted then asks if Johnny actually brought a SuperNintendo to a subway.

** Ted yet again did it in a strange case in MetroidPrime where he mixed up the names of the Chozo Ruins and Phazon Mines creating the name "Chozo Mines".

* WalkingDisasterArea: The guys theorize that [[VideoGame/{{Metroid}} Samus]] is this, seeing as how pretty much every planet or ship she lands on ends up exploding. Whenever someone points out that Tallon IV didn't explode, Ryan adds "Yet..."

* CaptainsLog: [[ParodiedTrope Parodied]] by Ryan throughout the ''{{Pikmin}}'' commentary.

** Lewis explains why he hates needles in [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAyrWBcRSy4 Part 14]] of the ''VideoGame/{{F-Zero}} GX'' commentary.

** Before that was the infamous Megaman 3 part 7-8, where, due to Ryan's almost nonexistent editing skills at the time, had Megaman grinding weapon energy for '''''two parts'''''. This caused Lewis to hallucinate [[FinalFantasy8 drawing magic.]] Thankfully, Ryan has learned from this experience and has begun editing more often.

* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The early days of Brainscratch are quite different compared to more recent recordings. Only Johnny, Lewis, and Ryan made up the group while Ted didn't come around until the ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' commentary. The audio quality from everyone's microphones were garbage since no one had better quality headsets until later on. It was so common for people to randomly disconnect from Skype and YouTube freezing on people that "What time are we at?" became a RunningGag until everyone got better computers and internet. The group in the early days also focused more on the game being played in the recording during the commentary.

** Considering he has recorded all the ''Mega Man'' games up to this point, it is safe to assume that Ryan is a big fan of them. His YouTube username even sounds like a Robot Master!

** May also be influenced by the fact that Lewis and Ryan haven't uploaded any footage to Youtube on their own channels for a few years now (as Ryan is trying to be more professional with the comm channel and Lewis couldn't be bothered to due to class), and it'd be too awkward to call Johnny "Somecallme" or some other nickname. Ted at least tries to keep his solo channel active, but is at best sporadic with uploads. Lewis, while having become active on his own channel agian, appears to have dropped his "Solaris Paradox" moniker entirely.

** Used again in ''VideoGame/CrashBandicoot3Warped'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn4qX-w6y2Q Part 8]], which is a repeat of what happend in Super Mario Galaxy: "Future Frenzy Frankly Frickin'... Blows--[[DoubleSubverted FUCK]]!"

** Ted is a big fan of the ''Ace Attorney'', ''Banjo-Kazooie'', ''Dragon Quest'', ''Paper Mario'', ''Pikmin'', and ''Pokemon'' series, and loves Sonic Adventure 2 more than any other member, which he admits might be due to nostalgia, being the first Sonic game he ever played as a child. He has also gone on record and said that he likes "pretentious Indie shit that nobody's ever heard of," leading to ocassional jokes that he is a [[Hipster hipster]].

* LiveEpisode: ''Smash Brothers Brawl'', ''Kirby's Return to Dreamland'', ''Mario Party 1'' through ''4'' and ''Super Mario 3D World.

** Kind of ironic, considering in several of Johnny's LPs, he sounds and comes across basically like a stoner more than anything else... not that he has ever gotten high.

** Nostalgia affects each member differently. It causes Ryan to have odd preferences (SM64 over Galaxy, not caring for Mario All-Stars on Wii), Johnny to treat games more favorably overall (praise Yoshi's Island and Double Dash greatly, despite being usually considered "meh"), Ted to do anything in his power to defend a game, even with glaring flaws, and to sometimes have a double standard (defend Sonic Adventure 2 and Pokemon Gen II tooth and nail, but bash Sonic Lost World and Gen IV, respectively, even though they share many of the same problems), and it causes Lewis to memorize games he played back then to the ninth degree (Crash 2 and Classic Sonic).

** Played straight with Spax3 who hasn't been featured as a guest since Turtles In Time almost 4 years ago.

** Ryan saying "D'oh!" in the style of Wario every time the character he's playing as gets injured or messes up in both ''Kirby's Return to Dreamland'' and ''Mario Party 2''. YMMV, but some might call this one an OverusedRunningGag...though arguably, it's not quite as overused as "[[LetsPlay/Chuggaaconroy D'oh, I missed!]]".

May eventually be subverted; upon uploading the [=RAWs=] for the [=DmC=] reboot, Lewis mentioned the group would eventually cover [=DMC4=]...though "eventually" for BSC is often [[Main/ScheduleSlip very literal]].

* JapaneseRanguage: During the latest TVTropes reading, Ted accidentally says [[IncrediblyLamePun Incredibly Rame Pun]]. The others find this rather amusing.

* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Whilst commentating on ''Film/DragonballEvolution'', a movie the entire team deemed an undiluted cinematic incarnation of fecal matter, all three commentators had to admit that Goku's hair gel gag was actually pretty funny.

* BookDumb: Johnny, while a genius in terms of what makes a good game, a highly skilled animator, and a master player at what he likes, isn't the brightest guy in terms of academic/"book" facts, a minor example being that he didn't know that New Hampshire had no sales tax until Ted outright said it, despite the state being universally known for that. Even he admitted one time that Matt (a member of Johnny's LP channel, the [[SomecallmeJohnny Super Gaming Bros.]]) is TheSmartGuy of his group.

* LetsGetDangerous: In Part 4 of the VideoGame/TheAngryVideoGameNerdAdventures II commentary, Ted completes Monster Madness 3 without getting the 'D' in order to fully complete it. Upon his second visit to the level, he managed to utterly dominate it, accomplishing a no-death run, along with managing to get the missing 'NERD' letter, despite the fact that Ted himself claimed Monster Madness 3 to be the hardest level in the game. And while the commentary was recorded after Ted's playthrough, you can just feel how angry and determined he was while playing through the level.

* GuideDangIt: Discussed in [[RogueSquadron Rogue Leader]] during the "Raid on Bespin" level.

* ThatOneLevel: InUniverse, Ryan cannot stand [[RogueSquadron "Imperial Academy Heist"]]. Mainly due to how hard and unfair it is. It got to the point where [[spoiler:he got a game over near the end of the level and decided to skip it claiming that [[BlatantLies Wedge came back to life via the force]] [[StoryDrivenInvulnerability due to him being important to the plot.]]]]

* BiasSteamroller: Lewis to all 8-bit games, with the 2D Mario games being an exception. Justified due to the fact that he grew up in the 16-bit era, and 8-bit games bother him as a result.
** Ted seems to dislike the whole Legend of Zelda franchise in general, especially Zelda 1. This is partly due to the frustration [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaMajorasMask Majora's Mask]] caused him as a kid (as mentioned [[http://youtu.be/9SsT2ayOaB0?t=1m28s here]]), giving him a bad impression of the franchise. Despite this, he's a big fan of ''VideoGame/HyruleWarriors''.
** On the subject of Pokemon, Ryan and (to a ''much'' lesser extent) Johnny have a bias against Gen 3 despite never playing it. It is even more prevalent in Gen 4, particularly with Ted (who is ironically the only one of the three interested in Pokemon who has played or will somewhat defend Gen 3). The bias often leads to them heavily underselling Pokemon from these Gens regardless of actual usefulness, and will express apathy at best to any content from these two Gens showing up in the Gens that they like.
** Ryan is particularly contemptuous against Nintendo for its over-saturation of Mario games and focusing too much on its main IPs and gimmicky controls while ignoring dormant franchises like F-Zero and Star Fox.
** Another bias for Ted is ''{{VideoGame/Earthbound}}'', [[HePannedItNowHeSucks which got him a lot of bad rep from the fans,]] due to him overstating his opinions. However, his opinions are more or less that they're overrated then anything.

* {{Hypocrite}}: As mentioned above, Lewis is a GrammarNazi, but during the ''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]'' commentary, he said "fastly" instead of "quickly" and no-one called him out on it, until their second reading of this very page.
** Everyone on puns. Puns were mostly laughed at in the past (or using a certain ''Series/CSIMiami'' scream), and now anyone who puns is getting groans or boos for it. Not to say that some puns do actually work.
** Ryan mocks Johnny for turning down the difficulty in one commentary, only to play ''Mirror's Edge'' on Easy; he's called out on this by [=TypingBlank=].
** He also does this in the ''VideoGame/WarioWorld'' playthrough where he plays the game with a 100% file with full health and all collectibles. He's called out on this by Johnny and Ted.
** As well as when he gets fed up with the infamous Chuckster level in Pianta Village, he goes to a hundred percent file with seventy lives to do Corona Mountain, skipping that along with two of Pianta Village's other missions.
** He also played The Last of Us on Easy.
** Amanda calls out Lewis' shit editing in ''Pokemon Leaf Green'' for saying Ryan is shit at editing while as time has passed, [[SwappedRoles Ryan has been editing more while Lewis has been editing less]].
** A minor one, in ''Metroid Fusion'': Ted tells Johnny that it takes just three seconds to backtrack and get whatever "necessary" items for Johnny to get. Sonic Colors has Ted saying that it's pointless to have a three second cutscene as it is a waste of time.

** Ted has admitted that he can be quite obnoxious to people who like games that he doesn't. Doesn't stop him from lecturing other people about respecting opinions (often including the very people that he was disrespecting).

*** In Part 13 the Brawl Subspace Emissary commentary, Ryan complains so much about how Nintendo handles their franchises that the video was actually named in expectation of the flaming Ryan would get, and Ted advises him to stop. Late in the video, when they face off against Lucario, Ted [[BiasSteamroller begins complaining about the use of Gen IV's soundtrack]] (even though Lucario is a Gen IV Pokemon), causing Ryan to [[LampshadeHanging mock Ted for telling him about complaining]].
*** Ted criticizes IGN's Top 100 [=RPGs=] for Gen I of Pokémon placing at #4 on the list, claiming that people who call it their favorite generation are not real fans and have a NostalgiaFilter to not realize that the games haven't aged well in light of the sequels, but expresses frustration that Gen II, which has also begun to show age since the remakes during Gen IV, didn't either. Although, being fair, they have aged better then Gen I, which was broken beyond belief.
*** An odd example, of Ted calling out the Pokémon fanbase. During the [=B2W2=] First Impressions video, Ted criticizes people who bash Gen V for [[AnimateInanimateObject Vanilluxe and Garbodor]], and asks why it didn't show up for Gen IV's Driflbim and Rotom.
* HypocriticalHumor: Ryan. He criticizes Johnny for chickening out/being a pussy when turning down the difficulty for one of his playthroughs, yet in his playthrough of ''VideoGame/MirrorsEdge'', he puts the difficulty on the easiest setting. Lampshaded by [=TypingBlank=].

** MarioParty 1 ended up becoming this due to Techincal Difficulties after half the board was finished. Ryan took the first half due to this reason.

** Johnny as Luigi gives one to Ryan as Wario during the crane game in VideoGame/MarioParty2 after Ryan tries to grab him.

* TheRival: Hilariously in VideoGame/MarioParty4 and Mario Party 3, Ryan's Waluigi is the rival of Johnny's Luigi.

* TookALevelInBadass: When the guys played ''MarioParty 2'' and ''4'', Lewis was quite bad, ending usually in dead last and making some pretty big mistakes (he won the first board of ''2'' purely to dumb luck) and most of his Stars were hidden block rewards. Come ''Mario Party 3'', Lewis is FAR more competent and aggressive, and takes second place twice (he'd have won one of them if not for a bit of bad luck), with nearly all of his Stars being earned (including a nicely-done bit of stealing Ted's coins with a Bowser Suit and buying a Star on the same turn thanks to a high roll).

** At the end of the ''[=LeafGreen=]'' commentary, when Amanda hesitates to admit that she prefers ''Platinum'' to the Gen I remakes out of concern for what [[BiasSteamroller Ted thinks]], Johnny tells her to fuck what he thinks and express herself. This starts a conversation about whether or not fucking a thought is actually possible, and they presume that some hentai exists for it.

** Ted coins the term "satisfication" in part 5 of ''MetroidFusion''.

** On April Fools Day 2015, the group did a commentary on ''Link's Crossbow Training''.

* LostForever: Due to hardware failures, the Mario Party 1 playthrough has been sadly cancelled, deleted, and will never see the light of day.
