This is why it's so obscure and has a small fandom: Canaletto brainwashed the audience into forgetting the show existed so he [[TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou can execute his plan to enter our world while people slowly rediscover it.]] Hey if [[Characters/GravityFallsBillCipher silly Triangle Man]] can pull this off, why not the Timeless One?

[[WMG: Eva Wei is a Trans-girl]]
Eva wears a black choker throughout the whole series, while chokers are often used by transwomen to hide their Adam's Apples. Also when Don Wei mistakenly calls her a "young man" when he doesn't recognize his daughter, she's offended and chews him out for it. Given the series is set years into Earth's future, it's very possible society has become more accepting of children coming out at younger ages.

[[WMG: Jordan Wilde is [[WesternAnimation/EdEddNEddy Edd's]] descendant]]
Admittedly there's nothing supporting this other than sharing [[Creator/SamuelVincent the same VA]], but we never learn any of the Eds' family names, and Double D's ethnicity is ambiguous. Also, since Edd was 12 in 1999, he'd be around 63 in 2050, and as an aspiring scientist it's likely he'd encourage his son William to enter the space exploration field. Of course, this had [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom dire consequences for humanity when William discovered the Crogs]] but eventually a positive outcome when Edd's great grandson Jordan became the Avatar to save the universe from Canaletto.

[[WMG: Lord Furter and his crew hail from the same galactic sector where ''WesternAnimation/TreasurePlanet'' takes place.]]
That's why they're dressed like 18th century mariners; the culture of that galaxy is based on the lifestyle of human settlers like the Hawkins family. Space-faring pirates and galleons are obviously commonplace. Depending on whether the GreatRace is set before or after the events of the film, Lord Furter either enrolled because he figured it'd be less dangerous than going after Captain Flint's treasure, or Treasure Planet had already self-destructed.

[[WMG:Canaletto was once a benevolent Avatar.]]
He may have started out as a hopeful young racer who wanted the Ultimate Prize to make a difference for his people, and when he became the Avatar, he set out to change the universe for the better. Unfortunately, [[TheChainsOfCommanding he was restricted to the rules of his duty,]] meaning no matter what he did, he couldn't actually impact anything in the long run or prevent civilizations from waging wars and continuing the cycle of violence. This, coupled with [[WhoWantsToLiveForever a thousand year existence outliving his entire species and any friends,]] [[GoMadFromTheIsolation eventually drove him over the edge]] and convinced him the only way to truly save the universe was to destroy it entirely and rebuild from scratch.

[[WMG:Canaletto's mind is still alive]]
The last actions we see him do involve him using [[Main/MindRape mind rape]] hypnotic sorcery on Eva just before his body is vaporised by Jordan. Canaletto saw it happen and had enough time to [[Main/DemonicPossession implant himself inside Eva's mind]] without her or Jordan realising. Now he bides his time, letting Eva live out her life unaware, until he can make a move to regain his power in the sequel series.

He saw that this was a possible future so he didn't just prepare Eva to become the one to release him. [[Main/RaisedAsAHost He prepared her as his potential new vessel]].

* This is supported by Canaletto's primary goal revolving around becoming Avatar again, when he'd already been the Avatar some twenty-thousand years ago.

becuase should be because.

Technically he was sucked into a portal, possibly becuase Canaletto knew that even he didn't have the power to outright kill him. So he compromised by simply ''removing'' Sul, possibly trapping him in a dimensional prison of sorts.

[[WMG: Sul wuld have been a great avatar]]
He already seemed competent with his own power, and needed a bigger challenge, killing an omnicidal maniac as powerful as Canaletto without breaking reality is a pretty big challenge. Also managing a planet that makes planets is really hard, you have to calculate hundreds of details or you could break some thing. All of those are things he would have loved to do, and would be able to do well.

And maybe he could have come up with a system for choosing the next physical god that didn't involve "Hope the fastest guy is not a monster".

* Building from this theory, he wished to create a new place for his wandering race to settle in, or perphaps remake everything for them. If Samus Aran had been present during the events, he would have either tried to remove her, viewing her as a sign of impurity within his race, or attempted to have her win the prize and become the instrument for the revival of the Chozo...which, depending on how sour her relationship with [[spoiler:her own race]] has become, may not be all that impossible.

Some should point this out...

[[WMG: Canaletto looks awfully like the Chozo from the Metroid series]]
In fact, seeing how ancient the Chozo civilization was, one would say that Canaletto was a Chozo. A chozo who was religious/ideological fanatic who sought the “ultimate prize” to purify the galaxy in a messianic/evangelist zeal, and had his appearance changed (just like Jordan had) when he was imbued with the Avatar’s power, with which he went rampant with righteous fury.

In a flashback, we see Satis trying to use his magic to counter Canaletto's and crying to O for help. Thus, O had originally planned to race for the seat of power himself once his superior's turn ended. He even scored high at first. But as Satis became more and more determined to have Molly take his place, he instructed O to started throwing the races to allow her to step ahead.
