*** That was meant to be a case of BreakingTheFourthWall, as they're characters in a show created by Noel. The theory could still be possible, though.

* Since the show takes place inside Noel's beautiful head, this could occur when a vault in his mental world is opened, revealing something that had been locked away for years. Character reactions imply that it's something terribly secret and personal... and then Howard Moon walks out. Cue Crowning Moment of Heartwarming.

[[WMG: The series is based on games Noel and Michael played as children.]]
It makes sense, given the childish nature of the show. It's also quite possible that some of the characters were based on toys the Fielding brothers owned: Smooth was a stuffed anteater that Michael took everywhere with him and sometimes spoke through. Dolly was a ''literal'' dolly; Ray and Dianne were quite liberal with their sons' upbringing, so it's within reason to assume they let them play with dolls. And as for Andy Warhol, well, they probably had a framed copy of one of his self portraits.

Season One had a guest spot by The Moon, Noel may end up turning a Boosh character cameo-ing once a season into a running gag. If so, in season 2, Old Gregg or The Hitcher may appear in season two, or maybe even Julian Barratt could appear playing someone. This seems like a good possibility now that The Boosh are back together and it could be fun.

** Confirmed in the last episode when the show catches fire and the characters state they were unharmed because they were part of his imagination.

Oh, and one more thing... "Naaaa naaaa na na na na na, people in the night and people up above..." Characters in his dreams when he sleeps and natural influences in his brain when he's awake.

'''City Gent''': Noel's opinion of people, including art historians, who blame negative trends on specific people and groups. He thinks they may as well be blaming a man who lives in the fridge and has scoops of ice cream for eyes.

'''Andy Warhol''': Noel's specific external artistic influences. He is a robot because Noel keeps in mind that he is his own man. If he were to paint an Andy Warhool painting, it would be an homage at best, and a ripoff at worst. This would also be true of paintings painted by his mental Andy Warhol.

Noel: The personification of Noel's unbridled creativity.

Smooth: Noel's voice of reason. He is nonetheless a bit eccentric, because Noel is not under the delusion that anybody is 100% sane.

Dolly: Noel's perception of the art world. Contains elements of his id (shown by her strange behavior) and the superego (shown her ability to be offended when she is asked if her art is a joke or a concept, and her ironic echoing of the question).

[[WMG: The series takes place entirely in Noel Fielding's mind.]]
With most other works of fiction, this explanation is either crazy, at least somewhat depressing, or both. Here, it's practically the only thing that makes ''sense''. The various characters represent various internal mental influences. The connection of multiple characters to art is a result of Noel's involvement in the art world. For example, the main characters (plus one):

Noel: The personification of Noel's unbridled creativity.
Smooth: Noel's voice of reason. He is nonetheless a bit eccentric, because Noel is not under the delusion that anybody is 100% sane.
Dolly: Noel's perception of the art world. Contains elements of his id (shown by her strange behavior) and the superego (shown her ability to be offended when she is asked if her art is a joke or a concept, and her ironic echoing of the question).
