In real life, Chris Rock lost his father in 1988 after an ulcer surgery. And one or two episodes in the show have the adult narrator Chris mention that his father is no longer alive. Now, there's a five year time difference between the show and real life (Real life Chris turned 13 in 1978, but in the show that happens in 1983)[[note]]While the first season is set in 1982-83, the second season starts from 1984 onward, so it's safe to assume that the first season is retconned into being 1983-84.[[/note]]. With this in mind, it is definitely possible that the show Julius died in 1993, five years after the real Julius passed away. However this is contradicted by [[ImagineSpot imagine spots]] that portrays show Julius as a senile old man.
