In S1 E6, we see her dad on the phone with someone. He refers to the person on the other end as "your highness". At first I thought it was a joke, but I looked it up and apparently Jordan is actually ruled by a King. The fact that Layan's family has ties to the Jordanian Royal Family (and are so close the King has her dad's personal phone number) makes me wonder if that's why the Principal was so lenient on her and wanted their approval. [[spoiler: It could also explain why Hazem was driven to murder Layan in the finale - she didn't just desecrate their honour, but the honour of the royal family as well.]]
