One way to avoid the NoImmortalInertia of no Ice Crown could be if that wish to keep him "safe" let him retain being TheAgeless from his Ice King days. Since the "keep Simon safe" and his Ice King powers both come from the crown, it could work in a passive way. It might also allow Simon to [[spoiler:Betty from Golb]] assuming the comic's resolution for that isn't canon anymore; if he's TheAgeless, he has potentially the rest of the universe to figure out a solution...assuming this doesn't twist itself into something evil [[HistoryRepeats like Magic Man]], of course.

* It's very clear that Martin and Dr. M are the same person, and yet they deliberately never show his face. Why would they neglect to do that unless they're saving the reveal for later? He'll play some sort of role in the remaining episodes; taking on a different guise each time; and won't be fully revealed to be him until "Together Again". As to how Martin could wind up in these different times and places throughout the series, it'd be effect of the Catalyst Comet taking him: forcing him to randomly get transported throughout time and space.
