*** During the Goku Black arc, the titular Goku Black is able to get stronger as he fights the heroes, something the story implies is because of a combination of getting used to Goku's body, but also getting stronger as he fights due to the injuries he sustains, a call-back to the Saiyan's innate power to recover from injuries and become stronger. Since this ability had largely gone unused since the end of the Frieza arc in the original series, some felt this was strange that this power would suddenly reappear. The manga adaptation of the arc attempted to address this by having Future Trunks theorize that there must be a limit to how much power a Saiyan can unlock this way, hence why Goku Black was getting more powerful while the others weren't. The issue is that it doesn't make sense that the Saiyan's would just have an arbitrary limit their body can improve, seeing at it is basically a generic superpower (since Gohan, a Half-Saiyan, has the ability too). Furthermore, Goku Black is actually a Zamasu from another timeline who took Goku's body, meaning he would have taken over the body of a Goku who should have reached said limit, and yet he improves thanks to being beaten up. Worse, since the manga also implies that part of Goku Black's increasing power was because he was adjusting to Goku's body, the whole "body limit" explanation is completely pointless since there already was a perfectly fine explanation being used. Plus the series has originally somewhat written around this by having almost all the foes introduced after Frieza become stronger faster than the heroes could keep up, but this new explanation now makes the power seem less like a genetic power, and more like a random force of destiny.

*** When Android 17 returned for the Tournament of Power arc, he had become significantly stronger, able to match (while both held back) Super Saiyan Blue Goku. Some fans questioned how this made sense, since he went from weaker than Imperfect Cell back in ''Z'', to now stronger than many other characters. Toyotaro's explanation was that after the Cell Games, Android 17 saw that the Cell Jrs made by Cell had survived, took them, and not only trained with them, but also essentially "domesticated" them. This doesn't make sense though, because no matter the adaptation of ''Z'', Gohan very obviously killed the Cell Jrs, as even if they could have regenerated, the fact they never return, Cell is shown looking horrified Gohan just did so, and they never are referenced again, makes it clear the intent behind the scene was that Gohan flat out kills them. If a single one survived, why didn't it show up and attack Gohan when he fought Cell; a single one surviving all but guarantees Cell's victory since it could have stopped the heroes from helping Gohan in his beam clash with Cell. Plus it doesn't make sense 17 could do that, when the Cell Jrs were so much more powerful than him, that he would have easily been killed by them if they wanted. Even if all of this is plausible, it begs the question why 17 never suggests a single one join in the Tournament, when a single Cell Jr, though not as strong as Cell, is basically going to be stronger than all three human characters combined? There also is the issue of how 17 became so strong, since it doesn't explain how he could become that strong using them.

** A minor one, but Future Trunks' hair is changed from ''Z'''s lavender to light blue. It's insinuated, however, that his hair was always light blue from the moment he was born, matching his mother's hair. While this makes more sense than his lavender hair in the anime, as Trunks' lavender hair was based on Bulma's hair being colored lavender in colored pages of the manga with the latter's hair color being changed to light blue, clips of ''Z'' keep his old hair color and present Trunks retains the lavender hair as well, meaning Future Trunks for some reason has different genetics to present Trunks.

*** In ''Z'', the Potara Fusion was originally stated to be permanent, but after Vegito (the fused form of Goku and Vegeta) let himself be absorbed by Majin Buu to free the people previously absorbed by said villain, the fusion inexplicitly stopped working and they were returned to normal. At the time, the only guess was that Buu was such an EldritchAbomination that his body may have done something to the magic used in the earrings but an official answer was never given. Years later in ''Super'' during the battle against Fused Zamasu, Goku and Vegeta decide to use them again and ask about why they defused, which was explained by Gowasu as being that the Potara Fusion is only permanent if a Supreme Kai is involved[[note]]Previously, the only Potara Fusions in the canon series besides Vegito had been at least one Kai[[/note]], and that instead has a one hour time limit. This, in of it self, isn't the issue, as it is a {{Revision}} instead of a {{Retcon}}, but where the VoodooShark comes in is the manga of ''Super'', where Gowasu also states that only officially promoted Supreme Kais will remain permeant. The Kais are all a race of beings born with divinity, and while they do train other Kais to take their positions, the series never stated or implied any form of ritual or magic that would allow the earrings to know who is an "official Supreme Kai", so how would the earrings have the means of telling who is an "official" kai? If this is true, how is Shin an officially approved Supreme Kai when it was all but stated that he was very new, hence why he was not aware of a lot of important elements about the Kais. Furthermore, Zamasu even states in the manga that it was mainly a title, so unless there is some kind of ritual involved, it doesn't make sense how the earrings can just know who is one or not. Plus, this detail is completely unnecessary, since Fused Zamasu manages to remain a fused being anyway because his base fusees are the same person, so having him defuse ended up being unnecessary except to justify him splitting into clones.

*** Early in the Frieza arc, Vegeta reveals that Saiyans have an innate [[CameBackStrong ability to get stronger from near-death experiences,]] which the story uses to justify the Saiyan characters jumping in power in order to be as StrongAsTheyNeedToBe for each major fight, even going so far as to say this is how Goku got so strong as a kid. After said arc, this ability was never really referenced again, which left viewers confused if it had just been forgotten or stopped working. During the Goku Black arc in ''Super'', the title villain uses a similar ability to gradually get stronger through fighting the heroes, notably going from being slightly on par with Super Saiyan Goku in his normal form, so being able to use his own version of Super Saiyan Blue, Super Saiyan Rosé. * ''VideoGame/DragonBallZKakarot'' has a couple:
** The game attempts to explain why {{Funny Animal}}s, which were common in the original ''Dragon Ball'', mostly disappeared after the Saiyan Saga. According to a sidequest, a drug called animorphaline which turns humans into beastmen was popular back when Goku and Bulma were kids, and not many are seen anymore because the fad ended. Bulma says King Furry became a dog from taking animorphaline, but this is contradicted by the anime showing that his walls are lined with paintings of his ancestors who are also all dogs. The original series also features very young animal people, including babies, showing them living all over the world no matter how remote, and Oolong even says in ''Kakarot'' that he was born a pig.[[note]]It doesn't make sense even within the context of the game itself. The entire plot of the quest in which you learn about animorphaline is that two guys took some, and you have to help them change back. Sounds normal, except that the reason they want to change back is because, since all the other beastmen are gone, they're forced to live in a cave as outcasts due to looking like freaks in the city... except if you actually go to the city, there's still plenty of beastmen around, and nobody cares. They're also pretty baffled that Oolong is a natural-born pig, and say he must have had a rough life because of it, but again, nobody cares or thinks it's weird that Oolong is a pig.[[/note]]
** It also attempts to tone down Piccolo destroying the moon. It claims that Piccolo was able to create an illusion of the moon to destroy in order to turn Gohan from a Great Ape back to normal. The problem is that such an explanation for how he did it wasn't necessary at all! Back in the original Dragon Ball, Roshi was able to blow up the moon with a Kamehameha just fine and Piccolo is much more powerful than Roshi at this point. More importantly, the Earth was just fine without a moon, as nothing was implied to have changed, and Kami bringing the moon back years later seems to wrap up a plot point than have any real meaningful relevance. Additionally this raises the question: when did Piccolo have this sort of illusion power? Let alone illusions powerful enough to persist even two years after, including while he was dead? How come he never used this ability before? Why didn't he do this before to impede the Saiyans?
** Goku comes up with the idea that that Saiyans don't need their tails anymore once they "outgrow" their potential which... only makes things even more confusing than before seeing how it doesn't serve to make much sense. Oozarus transform and boast a whopping ten times boost in strength, dwarfing Goku and Gohan, the other Saiyans there at the time. Logically, this would mean that Saiyans shouldn't grow back their tails until they're at least past the hundred thousands at base, but Gohan wouldn't reach this level until Frieza's fight, and Vegeta wouldn't reach it until after his Zenkai boost from Krillin. This ''should'' mean that since tails are also [[InformedAttribute stated to grow back in extremely stressful situations]], both should have gotten their tails back mid/near end of arc given this explanation, but never do.

** At one point, it's revealed that Baby is actually Dr. Myuu's creator and that Dr. Myuu was actually just a machine created by Baby at some point to continue his development, rather than Baby being a creation of Dr. Myuu. It brings up questions as to how this is possible, as it's shown Baby was not quite fully developed when he was first discovered. And it's never further expanded upon when Myuu was created or why Baby wasn't in shape beforehand. The writers seem to try and explain away this logic by giving Baby the backstory that he was originally a bio-robot fetus that was launched into space by the Tuffles so that it might one day destroy the Saiyans. If anything this further adds to the argument of those who question how Baby could have made the Machine Mutants while still a fetus.

** The manga adaptation of ''Super'' often tries to explain plotholes in either the outlines given to Toyotaro or the anime, which can result this issue happening. For specifics:

Plus the series has originally somewhat written around this by having almost all the foes introduced after Frieza become stronger faster than the heroes could keep up, so the idea of a limit on this ability makes no sense in universe, but also just doesn't add anything.anything from a meta angle.

* ''Anime/DragonBallGT'': At one point, it's revealed that Baby is actually Dr.

** The Shadow Dragons were supposed to have been generated by overuse of the Dragon Balls. They absorbed negative energy with every wish granted, but would release that energy gradually over time, something they couldn't do once Bulma's Dragon Radar made them easy to find and events of the show necessitated use far more frequent than intended. But then it's made clear this specifically applied to the use of ''Earth's'' Dragon Balls. Earth's original Dragon Balls went inert when Piccolo and Kami re-fused and the current ones were recreated by Dende from the originals, yet Dende didn't notice the negative energy when he remade them? Then there's the {{Neglectful Precursor|s}} factor of keeping such a major drawback to the Dragon Balls' use a secret. For that matter, how did the Kais know about the Shadow Dragons, but the Namekians - the race who created the Dragon Balls - apparently didn't? For that matter, if the Kais did know, why didn't they give Dende a heads up to perhaps create a longer recharge time or devise a way to deal with the negative energy before restoring Earth's Dragon Balls?

* Early in the Frieza arc, Vegeta reveals that Saiyans have an innate [[CameBackStrong ability to get stronger from near-death experiences,]] which the story uses to justify the Saiyan characters jumping in power in order to be as StrongAsTheyNeedToBe for each major fight, even going so far as to say this is how Goku got so strong as a kid. After said arc, this power largely vanished and never was referenced again, which left viewers confused as to why. The ability reappeared much later in ''Super'' with Goku Black, who uses a similar ability to get stronger against the heroes in both adaptations of the story. The manga adaptation attempted to address why this power had largely vanished by having Future Trunks theorize that there must be a limit to how much power a Saiyan can unlock this way. The issue is that it is never explained what kind of limit this would be, and why one would exist for what is essentially a genetic superpower. If Trunks is correct, then why does Goku Black get more powerful from his battles, as he's Zamasu in Goku's body, meaning he would have swapped bodies with a Goku who should have reached that limit, and thus his body shouldn't have any more room to grow power wise when it would have been simpler just to say Zamasu is getting used to Goku's body, not unlike Ginyu when he did it to Goku? Plus the series has originally somewhat written around this by having almost all the foes introduced after Frieza become stronger faster than the heroes could keep up, so this "limit" doesn't seem like a logical explanation over that idea.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

** The game attempts to explain why {{Funny Animal}}s, which were common in the original ''Dragon Ball'', mostly disappeared after the Saiyan Saga. According to a sidequest, a drug called animorphaline which turns humans into beastmen was popular back when Goku and Bulma were kids, and not many are seen anymore because the fad ended. Bulma says King Furry became a dog from taking animorphaline, but this is contradicted by the anime showing that his walls are lined with paintings of his ancestors who are also all dogs. The original series also features very young animal people, including babies, showing them living all over the world no matter how remote, and Oolong even says in ''Kakarot'' that he was born a pig.[[note]][[UpToEleven It doesn't make sense even within the context of the game itself.]] The entire plot of the quest in which you learn about animorphaline is that two guys took some, and you have to help them change back.

* ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'': Not the anime, but the Granolah arc of the manga gave possibly what is the ''MOST'' FanDislikedExplanation of Dragon Ball, and that's saying something. After Bardock saves Monaito and Granolah from the Heeters, Monaito asks what he would use the dragon balls for, and Bardock he'd use it to keep his sons alive, and that's what Monaito does. The thing is that this would mean that Goku and Raditz, really had no agency until their fateful battle. It also makes no sense as that would mean Bardock didn't need to go out of his way to save Goku because the Dragon Balls would have ensured his survival, and that it ultimately didn't matter as Raditz and Goku both die a good time after the wish was made.

Oozarus transform and boast a whopping ten times boost in strength, dwarfing Goku and Gohan, the other Saiyans there at the time. Logically, this would mean that Saiyans shouldn't grow back their tails until they're at least past the hundred thousands at base, but Gohan wouldn't reach this level until Frieza's fight, and Vegeta wouldn't reach it until after his beatdown from Recoome. This ''should'' mean that since tails are also [[InformedAttribute stated to grow back in extremely stressful situations]], both should have gotten their tails back mid-arc given this explanation, but never do.

Furthermore, the manga reveals Future Trunks was made a Supreme Kai without knowing it, meaning there is at least a way for non-Kai's to be given the title, but if thats true, how is it possible, when Trunks himself was completely unaware he was one. Zamasu even states in the manga that it was mainly a title, so unless there is some kind of ritual involved, it doesn't make sense how the earrings can just know who is one or not. Plus, this detail is completely unnecessary, since Fused Zamasu manages to remain a fused being anyway because his base fuse'es are the same person, so having him defuse ended up being unnecessary except to justify him splitting into clones.

* Early in the series, Oolong tries to deal with the impending Saiyan attack by using the Dragon Balls to just wish the Saiyans dead. Shenron explains that he can't do anything outside his creator Kami's power, and since the Saiyans are stronger than Kami, he can't touch them. The characters abandon the idea after this, but fans (and ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged'') were left wondering why they couldn't just use the wish to, for example, make the Saiyans' pods explode while they were still out in deep space.

* Later in the Android arc, the Hyperbolic Time Chamber was introduced as a way to help the group get stronger quicker. In an attempt to justify its existence, Goku mentions this is where he trained with Kami after defeating Demon King Piccolo. Said attempt raised a lot of questions that the series likely never thought about at the time. For example, if the room existed all along, why wasn't it used by Kami to train the human characters in preparation for the fight against the Saiyans? Not only would the human characters be much stronger than Goku was when he went in, but even if they could only stay in there for a short time, that would still give them an extra head start in getting ready to fight the Saiyans. Similarly, if it existed all along, why didn't Goku suggest using it to the others during the three years they had to prepare for the Androids, especially given how the group knew how dangerous they were going to be thanks to Future Trunks? While it's understandable that Goku may not have needed it considering they had three years, it still would have been a back-up plan to consider or mention. As a result, it's generally agreed that it was a quick AssPull by Toriyama that he didn't quite think through.

If Trunks is correct, then why does Goku Black get more powerful from his battles, as he's Zamasu in Goku's body, meaning he would have swapped bodies with a Goku who should have reached that limit, and thus his body shouldn't have any more room to grow power wise? The community generally ignores this, and the most common theory to explain it is that the ability remained active, but because the enemies faced were so strong and often got strong quickly, that the boosts were simply too small to make an impact. As for Goku Black, the theory to explain this is that he is getting more used to Goku's body and therefore unlocking more of its power.

Plus the series has originally somewhat written around this by having almost all the foes introduced after Frieza become stronger faster than the heroes could keep up, so this "limit" doesn't seem like a logical explanation over that idea.

DBZK never says Saiyans who can be stronger than Oozaru CAN'T transform.

If this isn't the case, then it makes it a wonder how the Hell Vegeta was able to make use of his tail, since ''Kakarot'' would otherwise be implying Vegeta shouldn't have been able to transform at all.

They never said that Saiyans CAN'T transform into an Oozaru even if they're capable of being stronger.

* In ''Anime/DragonBallGT'', the Shadow Dragons were supposed to have been generated by overuse of the Dragon Balls.
** ''Anime/DragonBallGT'' ' provides another example of this With the reveal that Baby is actually Dr.Myuu's creator and that Dr.Myuu was actually just a machine created by Baby at some point to continue his development, rather than Baby being a creation of Dr.Myuu.It brings up questions as to how this is possible, as it's shown Baby was not quite fully developed when he was first discovered. And it's never further expanded upon when was Myuu created or why Baby wasn't in shape beforehand.

It's a touching scene...that makes basically no sense with what we know about Future Trunks. For one, Tapion's sword was an indestructible magic sword meant to slay a monster strong enough to trounce the post-Buu cast, but Future Trunks's sword was explicitly shown to be a completely normal sword, and outright broke in at least one fight prior to then against far weaker opponents. It also implies that Future Trunks had a similar encounter with his version of Tapion and the film's villain, [[GenericDoomsdayVillain Hirudegarn]], prior to showing up in the series, but Future Trunks was far weaker than Hirudegarn and would have been squished like a bug by it, and it raises the question of why he didn't tell the Z-Warriors about it. More importantly, he wouldn't have been able to open the box to release Tapion at all without the Dragon Balls. The only way to make it jibe with canon is to say that Tapion and Future Trunks's swords are different swords, and they just look identical by complete coincidence, which makes the entire thing pointless.

After said arc, however, the ability vanishes from the story and only gets used roughly two more times in the story: once when Cell blows himself up, and the other debatable moment being Gohan after being healed by the Supreme Kai after his near death by Majin Buu. The ability reappeared much later in ''Super'' with Goku Black, who uses it to get stronger against the heroes in both the anime and manga adaptation of the arc. In an attempt to explain why the ability vanished, the manga adaptation has Future Trunks theorize that there must be a limit to how much power a Saiyan can unlock this way. This raises a number of questions that the manga never likely thought about. For starters, what is this arbitrary limit? How does the Saiyan's body just know what limit that is? Why would it just stop if this is some kind of genetic power Saiyans have? If this is true, then why does Goku Black, being Zamasu in Goku's body, manage to get several boosts using this power, when logically the Goku whose body he is using would have reached the same limit, given how said Goku would have reached the same limit as his mainline counterpart? * Goten and Trunks were able to achieve Super Saiyan at a young age with no explanation originally. For years this confused people, and it reared its head again with ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' and the ability for Saiyans of the Universe 6 to turn Super Saiyan too. Officially, Toriyama would explain that all Saiyans have cells in them called S-Cells that are what allows a Saiyan to achieve the form. However, this raises several questions. Why do Half-Saiyans have greater amounts of S-Cells? Why does being more gentle seem to raise the amount of S-Cells one has? Why would intense emotions be the trigger to cause the form? In addition, why would focusing your energy into your back as people like Caulifla do be able to work? It's generally agreed that Toriyama made it up to handwave why the two could become Super Saiyans at a young age. It should be noted that this is actually a [[FranchiseOirignalSin carry over from the manga]] where Future Trunks, Gohan, and Vegeta ''all'' seemingly earn their transformations off screen without any explanation (in the two's case, it was brushed aside as they "trained") and no emotion connected to it.

Additionally this raises the question: when did Piccolo have this sort of illusion power? Let alone illsuions powerful enough to persist even two years after, including while he was dead? How come he never used this ability before? Why didn't he do this before to impede the Saiyans?

The entire plot of the quest in which you learn about animorphaline is that two guys took some, and you have to help them change back. Sounds normal, except that the reason they want to change back is because, since all the other beastmen are gone, they're forced to live in a cave as outcasts due to looking like freaks in the city... except if you actually go to the city, there's still plenty of beastmen around, and nobody cares. They're also pretty baffled that Oolong is a natural-born pig, and say he must have had a rough life because of it, but again, nobody cares or thinks it's weird that Oolong is a pig.[[/note]]
** ''VideoGame/DragonBallZKakarot'' does this again when attempting to explain how Piccolo destroyed the moon. What makes this one worst is that an explanation for how he did it wasn't necessary at all! As Roshi back in dragonball was able to destroy the moon with his Kamehameha and Piccolo is much more powerful than Roshi at this point. Instead Piccolo casted an illusion that made the moon appeared to be destroy. this raises the question: since when have Piccolo had the power to case illusions? let alone illusions powerful enough to make entire celestial bodies seemingly vanish for 2 years and stay in affect even after he's killed? How come he never used this ability before or ever again? Why didn't he do this to earth so the Saiyans or Frieza couldn't find it?

attempts to explain why {{Funny Animal}}s, which were common in the original ''Dragon Ball'', mostly disappeared after the Saiyan Saga. According to a sidequest, a drug called animorphaline which turns humans into beastmen was popular back when Goku and Bulma were kids, and not many are seen anymore because the fad ended. ** ''VideoGame/DragonBallZKakarot'' does this again when attempting It also attempts to explain how tone down Piccolo destroyed destroying the moon. What makes this one worst moon. It claims that Piccolo was able to create an illusion of the moon to destroy in order to turn Gohan from a Great Ape back to normal. The problem is that such an explanation for how he did it wasn't necessary at all! As Back in the original Dragon Ball, Roshi back in dragonball was able to destroy blow up the moon with his a Kamehameha just fine and Piccolo is much more powerful than Roshi at this point. Instead Piccolo casted an illusion that made the moon appeared to be destroy. * In ''Z'', the Potara Fusion was originally stated to be permanent, which was why Vegeta was initially against using it with Goku to defeat Super Buu. When they did and their fused selves (Vegito) was purposely absorbed by said villain as part of a plan to free their loved ones from Buu, the fusion inexplicitly vanished and they were returned to normal. Everyone InUniverse was confused, and the Kai's watching speculated that, because Majin Buu was such an EldritchAbomination, that his body may have done something to the magic used in the earrings. This, in of it self, isn't the issue, as it is a {{Revision}} instead of a {{Retcon}}, but where the VoodooShark comes in is the manga of ''Super'', where Gowasu also states that only officially promoted Supreme Kai's will remain permeant. The Kai's are all a race of beings born with divinity, and while they do train other Kais to take their positions, the series never stated or implied any form of ritual or magic that would allow the earrings to know who is an "official Supreme Kai", so how would the earrings have the means of telling who is an "official" kai? If this is true, how is Shin an officially approved Supreme Kai when it was all but stated that he was very new, hence why he was not aware of a lot of important elements about the Kais. Zamasu even states in the manga that it was mainly a title, so unless there is some kind of ritual involved, it doesn't make sense how the earrings can just do that. Plus, this detail is completely unnecessary, since Fused Zamasu manages to remain a fused being anyway because his base fuse'es are the same person, so having him defuse ended up being unnecessary except to justify him splitting into clones.
