* ZombieApocalypse: The setting. At the start of the story, it has been 21 years since the outbreak. The Lore Journal you find at the end of Chapter 4 reveals it started in 2021, putting the current setting in 2042.

** The protagonist's default name is Ash, after Ash Williams from ''Film/EvilDead.''

* OurZombiesAreDifferent: There are different types of zombies throughout the book. Drones are the most common kind, scouts search the area for prey before signaling other zombies with shrieks, soldiers are the GiantMook, and sirens have human builds and lure their prey by [[CompellingVoice humming]] before finishing them off.

* RegularlyScheduledEvil: Every seven years, during the Summer Solstice, there is a massive surge in the number of zombies that roam in the open. In Chapter 3, it's revealed that the last surge was seven years ago, and there are only a few weeks left until this year's solstice.

* ShoutOut: In Chapter 5, if you take the premium option to give Cassidy a [[HeroicSacrifice glorious death]], the achievement for it is "[[Film/MadMaxFuryRoad Witness Me]]."

* CastFullOfGay: The book has plenty of LGBT+ characters, in no small part due to being a ZombieApocalypse story taking place in the 2040s.
