It's eventually toned down significantly, with hints suggesting that he's doing so deliberately.

The students are mostly so focused on academics that they can't be bothered to care about art, but Haruhito himself quickly becomes popular as a teacher thanks to his efforts to make art class an enjoyable escape from the pressure of constant studying.
