For various reasons, not least of which being that Rei ate all their food before they even reached the campsite, they're forced to cut the trip short after just one night.

* MindRape: Mind destruction magic is a forbidden type of magic which does exactly what its name implies. Sable is secretly studying it at the start of ''Man and Elf'' for theoretical purposes. [[spoiler:He can use a mind destruction spell to kill Meave, but doing so leads to a bad ending.]]

* ApatheticTeacher: Eris may be Sable's homeroom teacher and the academic advisor for all first-year students, but she cares little for teaching such inexperienced kids or helping them with their problems. In class, she either lets pre-recorded lectures do her job for her or leaves students to their own devices. As advisor, she responds to students' requests for help by sending them condescending emails which tell them to suck it up and then blocking them. This eventually gets Deconstructed: Eris's apathetic teaching style and reputation for sexually harassing male students have left her on thin ice with the administration, and she ends up getting fired on most routes.

* OlderThanTheyLook: Thanks to their long lifespans, many demihumans look far younger than their actual age. Lisha is over a hundred and Drakan is several thousand years old, but both of them look like teenagers and functionally ''are'' teens by the standards of their respective races. Raphael's age is never specified, but she has been teaching at Amadronia long enough for Rei's middle-aged mother to have once been one of her students.

* HumanPopsicle: In ''A Dragon’s Treasure'', [[spoiler:Sable learns that Nidhogg has kept Drakan's father alive for thousands of years by preserving him in a block of magical crystal. She occasionally lets him out to mate with him.]]

* EmotionEater: [[spoiler:White vultures feed on the suffering and negative emotions of other beings. Their preferred targets are the dying and the recently deceased, so they tend to hang around hospitals, graveyards, and the occasional battlefield.]]

* HumanMomNonHumanDad: Inverted with Drakan, who has a human father and a dragon mother. [[spoiler:Played straight with Lisha's half-brother Victor, who has an elf father and a human mother. Inverted again by Fafnir, Sable's sort-of daughter created by Nidhogg's magic but formed from Sable's mind and viewing him as her father.]]

* OurAngelsAreDifferent: The school doctor, Raphael, claims to be an angel. She looks the part, blond, golden hair, feathery wings, but several people are sceptical.

* MaliciousMisnaming: Raphael constantly refers to Eris as Eros, something which clearly makes Eris uncomfortable.

* ApatheticTeacher: Eris took the position of first-year advisor because she assumed the new students would be too inexperienced to contact her through the Terminal spell. She is not happy when Sable manages to do just that, asking her to do something about the fact that he's been mistakenly placed in the girl's dorm, and sends him a rude email telling him to suck it up before blocking him.

* ADogNamedDog: Drakan the half-dragon. [[spoiler:Though it turns out that her real name is Naziel.]]
* AGlitchInTheMatrix: In Man and Elf, [[spoiler:Sable realizes that many details about Meave’s prison don’t add up. How did Meave build an inescapable, magic-nullifying prison in less than a year? Why didn’t Lisha recognize any of the prisoners even though Meave has kidnapped many people from her home village? And where is all the poop if the cells have no toilets? From these and other clues, he deduces that the prison is an illusion meant to break his and Lisha’s spirits before Meave throws them into the ''real'' (and far more escapable) prison.]]

* OurElvesAreBetter: Elves are long-lived and innately magical beings with pale skin, [[SupernaturalGoldEyes golden eyes]] and [[MysticalWhiteHair white hair]]. They have a weakness to fire and gradually weaken if they spend too much time outside the forest: as such, many elves consider dragons and humans to be their natural enemies. Dark elves are not a separate race, but rather individuals who have spent so long outside the forest that they’ve adapted and regained their power.
