** Crafting skills (known as "Expertise" in-game) used a similar mechanic prior to the Season 2 release. Aside from the grinding required to earn sufficient experience and randomly dropped items to level the skill, certain special items (known as "finishes") were required for the final "test" crafting. These items were available only from specific NPCs, who provided a maximum of 2 per real-time day, and only in exchange for a number of quest items. 20 of these special items were required for the first level alone, with higher levels requiring more. This was dropped in favour of a simple "recipe" unlock system.

** Lann and Fiona gain simple versions with their alternate weapons (spear and hammer, respectively). Activating the charge infuses their weapons with additional damage-dealing capability for limited time.
Is there an issue? Send a MessageReason:
Fiona\'s only charged attacks with a hammer are single-use, the charge doesn\'t increase her attack power after the attack has landed, nor can it be charged ahead of time and released later. Explicitly of the \"Stand still until you attack, then move on\" variety. The only charged attack of any kind in Lann\'s possession is the same as Fiona\'s; the original text was probably referencing the Fury Infusion skill, which applies a damage and crit rate buff for a few seconds, but that\'s not a charged attack. Kai doesn\'t HAVE any smash attacks because he\'s not a close-combat fighter, unlike all the others. His special moves are explicitly SP skills, and I\'ve personally tested that he doesn\'t lose SP over time. I\'m honestly beginning to wonder if the person that wrote this even PLAYS the game.

** Most of Kai's moveset involves the use of smash attacks, resulting in an increased SP gain for him (with SP loss over time for balance purposes).

Smash attacks are entirely different from SP skills. A smash attack is most attacks that end a combo and often are the main source of damage-dealing in a fight, where SP skills are more along the lines of super combos from fighting games, needing to be charged up first.

* ChargedAttack: All characters receive "Special Points" ([=SP=]) skills which can be used to use powerful attacks caled SP skills (or smash attacks). These are of the "Collect" type, and require damaging enemies and stealing their life-force to fill up an SP gauge, either partially or completely. Once the gauge has been filled to a certain level, SP skills become available. Using a SP skill depletes a certain portion of the gauge, requiring it to be re-filled. Evie, Fiona, and Lann also can also aquire skills that give them "Hold" type charged attacks.

** Evie (Evy in the Korean version): Probably the most flexible character. A mage who barely escapes being a SquishyWizard by virtue of a strong magical shield. Although theoretically capable of heavy armor, building the necessary skills is quite difficult, and she is typically barely to lightly armored. Evie starts out wielding a staff, and later on has the option to wield a SinisterScythe. Depending on skill build, typically functions as a Nuker and Healer (staff-wielding and emphasis on magic skills), or a Jack (scythe-wielding and emphasis on damage and defense skills). As of the "Labyrinth" expansion, Evie's staff powers were changed, putting more emphasis on magic attack and defense, and somewhat nerfing her healing ability.

* FlunkyBoss: The game runs rampant with this. A good example being Black Scar in The Fleeing Gnoll King; he's a LightningBruiser that will not let up and he comes with a small squad of mooks that are all damage sponges. Finding a way to kill them without getting murdered by Black Scar is no small challenge.

** Luckily, the Prairie incident ends on a much more positive note all around and probably saved the war effort.
* SuckSessor: The Ferghus of Mabinogi becomes an example in reverse, in regards to his presumed ancestor; the Ferghus of this game. Unlike his predecessor, this Ferghus never damages your equipment, even if his hands do slip.

* YouHaveResearchedBreathing: A very literal example in the skill Battle Respiration. Apparently you need to train to learn how to breath properly in a fight.
