An early game by EdmundMcMillen and Florian Himsl (the team behind VideoGame/TheBindingOfIsaac), Triachnid is about guiding a three-legged spider-like creature on a journey to recover its lost eggsack and larvae, after its mate is eaten by a large (from the triachnid's perspective) monster.

* PlayerPunch: In the last level, two larvae are positioned in such a way that opening the path to the end will drop them into acid. If you don't realize you can use web to save them, ''you have to drop your children into acid''.
* ScrappyMechanic: Objects can be carried in the triachnid's mouth, but enough force can knock them out. The reliance on an unreliable physics engine in general counts for this as well.

* TheWoobie: The triachnid is already an endangered species at the start of the game. Then its mate is eaten and it loses its larvae. More importantly, in gameplay, the triachnid is visibly fragile. Moving too quickly damages it, and because of the way it stretches and shakes from the physics engine, a lot of its movements appear intensely painful. It's difficult to say whether that last part was intentional, but it's damn effective regardless.
* UglyCute: The triachnid doesn't really look like a spider, but it's still pretty creepy. You're still gonna want to protect it at all costs.

The pace is deliberately slow and methodical as a result, and the game is more about experimenting with narrative and characterization through mechanics, than about being fun. The goal was to make players sympathize with the triachnid through the gameplay. [[TheWoobie It]] [[VideoGameCaringPotential Succeeded]].

* AllWebbedUp: You'll never completely wrap something in web, but trapping things on a single strand is one of your main puzzle-solving techniques in the second half of the game.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Presumably not actually that big, but we're never given a size reference, so the triachnid appears pretty large.
* NonStandardGameOver: Dropping the eggsack in acid or off a cliff will net you one of these.
* SomeDexterityRequired: The entire challenge of the game is maneuvering the triachnid's legs in such a way that it will walk and interact with objects.
* WombLevel: The last two levels take place 'inside' the monster that ate your mate.
* UglyCute: The triachnid doesn't really look like a spider, but it's still pretty creepy. You're still gonna want to protect it at all costs.
* VideoGameCaringPotential: Only collecting the eggsack is mandatory; the larvae are not. Doesn't mean you won't feel terrible about missing one.
** The triachnid will take damage if you pull its legs too far too quickly. Most players take their steps carefully after they realize this.
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: If you say it wasn't satisfying eating the tadpole creatures, you're lying.

This is more difficult than it sounds, because the triachnid can only be moved by [[SomeDexterityRequired dragging its feet individually in a "hand-over-hand" motion. Did we mention you'll also need to carry objects and manipulate webbing using this system]]?
